Anyone installed a Jet Kit on a G29, any tips on how to remove the airbox, or carb?

Ive taken my air box off a few times to clean the gunk out of the carb a few times on the 09 cart i had. The easiest way is to remove the two 10mm bolts that hold the airbox down near the generator. Unhook the hoses that run to the box. There are two 12mm nuts that connect the airbox to the elbow tube that leads into the carb. If you use a deep well 12mm socket on a 1/4" ratchet there is just enough room to reach in and loosen the nuts. Its takes some maneuvering but the airbox will pull right out. Next you disconnect the choke and throttle cables. The carb will slide right off the pins.

I believe the jets that plowmans sends are in the bowl on the bottom of the carb. Gonna need a long skinny flat head screwdriver to remove one of the jets.

I installed Plowmans jet kit last spring. One of the jets is external and the other is internal. Disassembling the carb (for me) was a good thing as it was somewhat gummy and needed a good cleaning anyway. The airbox mods were not difficult. Just follow Don's instructions and it should be easy. I did notice that the cart was louder after the mods, most likely due to the increase in intake noise. Honestly though, I didn't notice all that much increase in top end, but the throttle response seems a bit crisper.

Don told me back in the summer that the need for the jet kit and higher flow filter is that when you crank down on the governor or bypass all togther that at the higher rpms the carb doesnt flow enough fuel which can cause a lean condition doing engine damage over time. He said it really makes the best difference with the over sized tire kits that offer max top speed than the oem course tires.

Thanks for the input Guys.

I am going to tackle the kit first chance I get, Im just concerned taking the carb apart, and getting it dialed back in.

That all makes sense. It's a 2 part fix.The airbox mods allow more air to flow. Drilling the extra holes and removal of the restriction where the airbox bolts to the carb is all to increase the amount of air. But that increase in air will lean out the mixture without fattening up the jets to compensate. The end result is more fuel/air at high RPMS, which translates to more HP. It's not all that much different from what we used to do to our cars to flow more and increase HP.

The reason I didn't see much increase in top end it that even though I have the governor arm tie-wrapped, it's still working somewhat, and that's probably still the limiting factor in my top end numbers. But it sure does accelerate quickly. If I ever do the lift/bigger tires thing, it'll be a big help.

I dont think you have to do any adjustment to the mixture or idle jets when installing the new jets. Just take the old ones out and put the new ones in just dont go crazy tightening them. Its gonna take a few seconds with the choke pulled for the carb to fill back up with gas and turn the engine over. Best thing to do is when you get the airbox off you will have a full view of the carb. Take lots of close up pics so that each cable is reinstalled correctly as well as the gaskets for the intake on each side of the carb.

Actually, the instructions call for the idle mixture screw to be seated and then backed out exactly 1 3/4 turns and for the idle speed screw to be backed off until the throttle closes completely (to prevent backfire).

I would recommend disassembling the entire carb and cleaning the parts, and checking the float assembly as well.
