Re: yamaha g1 hard to start
I'd highly suggest cleaning your carb.

Re: yamaha g1 hard to start
Is the air intake, filter and filter box stock? My guess is too much air or not enough fuel. 110 compression should be fine.

Re: yamaha g1 hard to start
with 110 compression I would say your seals are ok. Check all components on the intake side (from the flange on the reed cage/boot to the head all the way to the filter) for any sign of cracks or bad gaskets loose clamps .....

Re: yamaha g1 hard to start
if you can spray some starter fluid around the seals while your cranking it or running. If it starts or changes rpm then seals are bad. Yes bad seals would allow too much air.

Re: yamaha g1 hard to start
hi. there is no change in it running when I spray start fluid around seals, so I guess that's ok, going to buy boot/flange,and new air filter and ruber clamps to hold down filter and go from there and thanks for serial location on engine, j31-110364, I think it makes it a 1986, thank you all for the help and will def keep you posted,.bud

Knock the carb down they can sit on the shelf for years.
