Need help, G1 jerky

I took both clutches apart, cleaned, & they operate as the should..If I'm driving along, at a walking speed,. the cart starts to jerk, just like the motor is trying to stop & start. If I speed up it works fine..
So I lifted the hood, & step on the gas . The motor turns over but don't start & I think it should.. I step on the gas a bit harder, the motor starts, but by then it's running pretty fast & the primary clutch closes & the cart wants to move..
I feel the cart should fire & start sooner, if it would start before I have to push harder on the gas pedal then it would idle.. My other cart starts sooner & I can actually sit in one place & it will idle.. How & where can I adjust this one so it will start & run before the clutch kicks in..at a lower throttle speed.?
The place where the throttle cable comes up behind the carburetor it has 2 nuts for adjustment, well between the 2 nuts & the little pin that hooks it to the carb, there is a lot of slack.. Will that have anything to do with it if I tighten up the slack.??

Lengthen out the turnbuckles(white plastic pieces) on the link that goes between the governor arm and the throttle.
With the key turned off, you should be able to press the gas pedal slowly and listen for the click on the pedal switch. You want it to click just prior to the throttle starting to move.

Thanks I just went out & checked, & yes it clicks just before the throttle moves, I adjusted it ever so little but it still jerks at slow speed.. also new seals in it, but it jerked with the old seals too..

Pull the plug and insert it into the plug wire. Lay it on the motor to check for spark. See if it sparks as soon as the motor starts to turn, or if it takes more pedal. The start circuit and the ignition circuit should happen at the same time.

Ok will try that tomorrow, got dark on me now..lol.. I guess this is one reason the guy sold it, is a friend of mine, & he said it jerked at slow speeds... I thought it was carburetion, but know different now...

It could be carburetion, but we haven't gotten that far yet. We need to eliminate a few things first.

OK. Sure hope we can get that thing running real good.. I am in an RV park in South Texas right now.. Went to a Happy Hour today, & spilled half my drink before I got there lol..

Well, you never said you were spilling your drinks! We better get this taken care of immediately then!
Here's a few other things to check.

Make sure the air filter is clean and completely sealed in the housing.

Make sure there are no air leaks between the carb and the engine. Check for cracks in the rubber carb flange.

Make sure the choke is off all the way.

Check, and remember the setting of the idle air screw(on the driver's side of the carb). Count the number of turns to get it to close completely clockwise. Try setting the idle air screw to 1-1/2 turns out. Try different settings(1/4 turn increments) and check the results. If results are no different, set it back to the original setting.

Check the spark-vs-engine turning as I mentioned in my previous post.

Well I tried all the above.. There is spark the moment I press on the gas pedal. Air cleaner is clean. etc.. I'm going to pull the secondary clutch & clean it better.. A couple of shoes are bad, & need replacing anyway...
The moment I touch the gas pedal the cart takes off. I can get it to idle by holding the brake, but the moment I take my foot off the brake pedal, it takes off. I checked the number on the belt & it is the right belt..
Could it possibly be a weak spring in the primary, (driving) clutch? & letting the clutch grab the belt too soon??

Yes, check the spring/weights inside the primary clutch. It sounds like the motor/carb/ignition is working like it should. One more thing... I think there is a throttle stop adjustment on that carb. Make sure it isn't set too high. Is there clearance between the belt and the primary sheaves when the motor is stopped?
