Default G1 runs then wont !!!

OK....My g1 will run and when I stop it wont restart. So far I have put a new top end, carb and seals. Its like it fouls the plug. I ck spark and made sure it was pumping fuel. Both ok (I guess). I can clean the plug and it will fire back up...(with a little time). I cked the float and needle and seem to be good. Its New!!! Maybe not adjusted right. What do I try next?????

It's not that easy to diagnose your problem with just a small description like you gave. First we have to establish what condition the machine is in.

1. Was this cart running for you before? Meaning, do you know if it is in running condition?

2. Are you running premix fuel? Or oil injector? Make sure you don't have "too much oil". The oil injector mixes the oil at between 150:1 and 300:1 depending upon rpm. If you are using the oil injector, disconnect it and run a premix of 100:1 and see if it runs. Be sure to use new clean fuel. Check your plug and change/clean as needed.

3. How old is the fuel? Old fuel in a low compression engine like this may not run. If in doubt, empty tank and fill with fresh fuel. See #2.

4. Do you have good compression? Needs to be 100psi-130psi. If it's below, you could have a no start/hard start condition.

5. Is there oil around the crank seals? This indicates compression loss.

6. Did you check the reeds. If the reeds are broken, dirty, etc it may not run.

7. Is your exhaust plugged? Remove the muffler and blow compressed air into the muffler (the direction of exhaust flow) and see if air comes out. If debris comes out, you might have issues with plugging. You can build a fire and throw the muffler into the hot coals for a couple hours, this will burn any oil buildup.

If you have good fuel, good spark, and good compression....it should run.

See the "stickies" at the top of the Gas Yamaha page. Lots of good info there. Do some reading, learn how these things work, it will make figuring out problems much easier.

Thanks for the response.... I have read many of the post. It was running before all this work but still had the restart problem...I have good compression, just replaced seals, new carb., running premix at about 60:1, new cylinder, rings and piston....I Can get it to run and as long as u don't shut it off it runs...but when I go to restart it... It wont start. I have exhaust coming out tail pipe. Maybe my fuel has too much oil but it doesn't smoke but a little bit. All of the above is y I am stumped.

After you break in the rings, might want to go to 1 oz per gallon mix. My first thought is you really can't "clean" a spark plug, if it's fouled, get a new one. Highly recommend only using NGK and for your car it should be a NGK-BP5HS (or hotter would be BP4HS) Good luck getting it running great!

what are you running for oil. the cheaper the oil the more you will foul the plugs

Also check if there is loose connection especially those wires (5) connected to the CDI.

60:1 is too much oil IMO. When I did my complete crank up rebuild on my G1 I ran 85:1 synthetic right off the bat. After 2 years I disassembled it....looked like new. No wear at all. I then ran 120:1 and it ran it's best. But at 60:1 it should still run. Not sure what's going on. If it runs after sitting a while, I'm thinking float, it might be running out of fuel.

These G1's are notorious for getting bad connections and loose connections on the wires. I recommend going over all of you wiring with a flashlight and magnifying glass. There could be a kink/break or some corrosion on a contact. When I first got mine, I couldn't get it to run at all, even after rebuild etc. For three days I messed with it. Someone here suggested to look at the wires. Sure enough, found one disconnected. Fired right up.

Could also be ignition related. CDI's will go bad, although they usually go out completely.

I ran Echo synthetic air cooled 2 cycle oil. Make sure whatever oil you use it's for "air cooled". Synthetic just burns and lubes better. Usually synthetic will tell you to use less also.
