Default G1 Gas reverse problem

Yes, I just got my Yamaha G1 Gas back from a Offroad mechanic / scam artist, who rebuilt the motor both top and bottom. When I got it back after 2 months it ran great in forward but the reverse doesn't spark. He said it has nothing to do with the rebuild and it is a new problem or something that was already broke. He wasn't familiar enough with the set-up to tell me why it doesn't work but offered to look into it (for more money and without a manual) Lesson learned, TAKE YOUR STUFF TO THE RIGHT PERSON EVEN IF IT IS INCONVENIENT & COSTS MORE!! Moving on... I declined on his offer. I have already busted the bank and paid 40% more than quoted for the rebuild. (I am in the process of getting money back but in the mean time I am on my own). Here is what it is doing and I hope someone of expertise can assist me.

I have conducted all the tests that are described on countless blogs. The solenoids are both clicking and the starter spins like crazy trying to start in reverse. Compression checks very good.
Orange wire voltage out of CDI Box is (17 Volts Fwd) (13 Volts Reverse)
Brown Wire, (46 Volts Fwd) (34 Volts Reverse)
White/Green Wire, (4.4 Volts Fwd) (0 Volts Reverse)
White/Red Wire, (0.5 Volts Fwd) (0.5 Volts Reverse)
Between White/Green & White/Red wires (4 VoltsFwd) (0 Volts Reverse)
Resistance between White/Green & White/Red and ground is negative

It appears to me that the White/Red wire going to the CDI box is the problem, I assume it is some form of pick-up from a coil??

What if anything can or should I do to get the reverse sparking again. Would a bad solenoid still allow all the above to take place, and is problem related to the rebuild???

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated..

Thanx in advance.

Your in it this far. I would swap two solenoids around and see what happens.

Yep, that's what I would do next.

If the solenoids check out O.K. I would look at the timing. If the mechanic really did not know what he was doing, and did not mark the exact position of your stator plate when he removed it, your timing may be advanced too far for it to run in reverse.

So the timing could actually cause reverse not to work? Will following the retiming procedure described in the manual put it where it needs to be or is it dependant on other variables, like on a car motor. It just seems to simple put it 1.3 mm from btdc in both directions....as described...
Thanx for the response

Sorry for the previous post. I re-read your original problem, and if it were a timing issue you should still have spark.

Thanx,
The white with red stripe wire coming from the back of the motor going to the CDI box, what does it do? It is the only wire that does not pass the checks. I am getting 0 voltage from it and I believe it is at least associated with the root of my problem. Can it be checked, adjusted, cheated??

ACES,

W/R wire is FORWARD logic to CDI, nothing to do with reverse. W/GN wire should get grounded when switch is in reverse. W/R should be grounded when in forward. The engine does not have to be running. Hope this narrows it down!
