Re: Exhaust extension
As long as it still runs good. Sometimes adding pipe that is too small a diameter might cause too much back pressure.

Re: Exhaust extension
Other than it might getting hung up, I see no reason. Backpressure concerns come from to small a pipe or to long a pipe. In this case, if your using the same size pipe to extend as is on the muffler now, you should be OK. If that pipe slides into the muffler outlet, I would replace it with one that slides over the outlet.

Re: Exhaust extension
My other pic didn't upload. It's just a 1/2" 45 coupling with a stick of 1/2" cut to just inside the body. I used the cutter to crimp it just enough that it should stay in place but if it gets hung up it will break away. Parts are less that 5.00 so if it breaks, what the heck. The actual exhaust on the muffler is within a fraction of 1/2 so I sanded it and used a deburring tool to shave the inside of the elbow just enough for a snug fit.

Re: Exhaust extension
I would actually make it a size or 2 larger, since the pipe is quite long, just to aid breathing a bit.I know what you mean about the enclosure,My dad had a 2-stroker with an enclosure and it got bad in there!!

Re: Exhaust extension
I like what you did, we use piping like that a little different in the mountains tho.

Re: Exhaust extension
I'd prob add a hillbilly exhaust pipe support (coat hanger). LOL I'm sure it will run fine like that, since it's straight. If we were talking high performance engine....that'd be a different story. For this application it will prob be fine.

Re: Exhaust extension
MattM, it's really not a cart, there's a valve just above the elbow!
