Default G8 Rear end "Clicking" noise

Hi all,

I have a '93 G8 with a "clicking" sound coming from the rear end. If I remove the belt and rotate the secondary/input shaft slowly by hand, it "clicks" 4 times per revolution. It does this both in and out of gear. With belt on and under normal operating conditions, this clicking turns into a high pitched "chirping" type sound. Car operates normally, but this noise is driving me nuts.

I recently installed a UMax spring with the updated spacer and spring seat but this had no affect on the clicking/chirping. It's the same now as it was before these updates.

What should I be looking for here? Does the input shaft bearing go bad? Is this bearing difficult to replace? Should I be looking at something else internally? Never had a rear apart so don't know what to expect or look for here.

Thanks
Todd

Todd, wondering if the forward/reverse lever is out of adjustment.

Haven't checked it but seen some other threads with the same recommendation. Will check it tonight if I get a chance.

However, it makes the same noise whether or not the rear is actually in gear or not.

Thanks

Hoffa, I have a complete rear axle if it gets to that point. Hope it does not

Thanks for the offer Curti. I hope it don't come to that either. Mine works, now. Just noisy and that bothers me. I wish you were closer. Shipping from VA to SD probably costs a ton!
