Bending Top Struts
Has anyone ever had any experience bending or making new top struts?
Is this worth buying from Harbor Freight to make new struts. http://www.harborfreight.com/12-ton-...der-32888.html Can someone give me a little advice here. I have a 88" top but need to make the struts for it. |

Re: Bending Top Struts
I've got a similar problem with G9 struts that have to be replaced. My plan is to go to a boat shop that makes Bimini tops and boat covers to see what they can fabricate. It may end up being tube aluminum instead of the square stuff but even that's better than what I have now.

Re: Bending Top Struts
I am selling a few things on Craigslist and as soon as they are sold I'm buying a tube bender from harbor freight so I can build my own bumpers and whatever else I need.

Re: Bending Top Struts
The bender at Harbor Freight is a Pipe-Bender,make sure you buy Schedule-40 Pipe for your projects,Tubing will not bend properly(it will crush in the bends).Pipe is measured by Inside-Diameter,Tubing is measured by Outside-Diameter.Another neat attachment is the Square-Tube bender kit from Howron( metalbendingtool.com).It is an adjustable-die for square tubing, and it fits compact/small-parts benders. The kit is $225,and really well built,I've talked to them at Carlisle, and looked at the equipment.I'm getting one soon.Hope this helps.

Do you know which one of the Harbor Freight "benders" will work for the lightweight 1" x 1" or 1.5" x 1.5" square tubing for the top struts. I need to build some of these struts for the tops. |

I don't think Harbor offers one for square-tube.I'll look into it.
