Default G9 not starting compression??

Totally new to carts, was asked by a friend to work on his G9 gas cart. I have worked on every ATV under the moon and rebuild them from crank up all the time. So bear with me and give me hell as we go along here.

I turn the key hit the pedal, the electric motor turns the drive clutch like a "pull" start normally would turn over an engine. This is all it does. It does not fire the engine. IT has spark, but it appears weak.

I have known to hold throttle open to check compression, with a tester in the hole IT reads 50psi, clearly very low and would not start just due to this. I just want to confirm there is no other trick to reading a cart compression as that electric motor is the only way to turn the cart over.

Is there a link or site anyone can recommend to guide me through a top end build. I believe cart engines/cylinder is all one piece and not like an atv engine? So would this be a big job?

Exactly how you check compression, at "wide open throttle". First, thake the valve cover off and see if a push rod came loose of a rocker arm. You should have 155 to 175 psi compression on that engine.

I'll take a peek in the valve cover in a day or so if I can get to it after work. As far as the unit being one piece, are these able to be bored out?

Shure, they have .25 and .50 over piston and rings available.
