another fuel problem
my g16 has a clean fuel tank, a cap that vents, a brand new Yamaha fuel pump & filter, & all fuel lines were blowen out & checked for cracks. it will run strong for awhile then it will loose some power going up hill & never recover the power when on flat land I have noticed the fuel filter is almost empty when this happens is this normal some times it is 3/4 full & it runs good then. what should I check could something in the motor be bad? the compression is 155psi.

Re: another fuel problem
Sorry, don't mean to sound rude, have you taken the cab apart and cleaned it?

Re: another fuel problem
You might also check the coil. I fought with my Yamaha for weeks thinking it was something in the fuel system, and it was all the coil. Replaced that for $75, and runs like a champ now. Search "TCI" in the forums, and there are lots of posts about how to test it and replace it.

Re: another fuel problem
yeah I cleaned the carb when I put in the new jets. not sure how a coil would effect the amount of fuel that is in the fuelfilter? how does the motor create the pulses to run the fuel pump? is their a seal in side that could go bad ?

Re: another fuel problem
Sorry, my point wasn't that the fuel filter should be 3/4 full or more. Mine runs almost dry, ALWAYS, so don't just judge that you are or aren't getting fuel by the filter. For $5, you can get a spark tester, and visually see if you are getting spark after it gets hot.
You say you put new jets in the carb? Fuel/air mix is a tough one to diagnose... |

Re: another fuel problem
the float bowl is full when I open the drain screw. also cranked the cart over with gas hose unhooked from carb & it was spitting fuel out every stroke no steady flow but it looked enough for the tiny carb.

Re: another fuel problem
"never recover the power when on flat land " even if you lift and slow down the press the gas again?
It almost sounds as if your are over shifting as in a worn belt or soft spring. |

Re: another fuel problem
A coil can seem good until it warms up, but then it will completely fail, not get weaker.

Re: another fuel problem
brand new clutch & belt from don. if I let it sit for a day it will run better the next day or I can blow air in the tank to fill up the fuel filter & that seams to help. is their a problem with running it on steep hills

Re: another fuel problem
Just a thought, pull you line out of your tank and make sure there is not a small hole in it. It may be sucking a small amount of air through your pick-up tube in the tank.
