Default Plowmans and Posi

Been awhile since I posted but a few weeks ago I buried my G16 on our trails. So after getting out 3 times I decided to call Don Plowman and order up the posi for the rear end. After talking with Don I found out that my year cart 1996 G16 has a smaller carrier and his kit would not work; however, Don informed me that they have the larger carrier that works with his posi and it will bold right in my cart while retaining the original ring gear. Easy enough!

Don also schooled me on the governor and how to disable it since I had purchased his power kit and was only able to GPS about 22mph at best. That's pretty good though I though for a stock cart motor with the power kit, carb, air cleaner and muffler and torque spring. I have a Jakes 6" lift with 22" tires so I wasn't expecting big block power.

Well, this evening I finished the posi and the governor, oil change, cleaned air filter, and all the necessary tweaks. Warmed up the cart and headed out for a test drive....WOW!! never expected to be floored but I GPS'd my cart at 30mph. And I still had more but did not want to push it until I broke the rear end in a bit and adjust the new brakes....couldn't stop as good as I wanted too! Oh, the posi is killer too!! It cranks out a lot more drive than stock...I am Happy, Happy, Happy!!! Thanks Don.. Looking forward to the trails this whole weekend!

Sounds Good. Don't you just love when things turn out better than you hoped for.

Second run today and clocked 34 on GPS. I don't know how accurate it is but the cart is definitely much faster...now I just need a tach to watch rpm's.

Any suggestions as to what kind and model to use?

Tiny tach, http://www.tinytach.com/
We have used several of these with excellent results.

Noticed while out today that the cart backfires. I wasn't really pushing it just cruising around the block and when I came to a stop is when it backfires.. Never had that happen...could be gas or carb adjustment?

Is the throttle plate closing ALL the way since you disabled the governor?

Backfiring is usually a sign of unburned gas in the exhaust system. Now that you have the governor disconnected the throttle is slamming shut and starving the engine for oxygen. The unburned fuel entering the hot muffler is igniting there. Try letting off the gas slowly and see if that helps. Some of the older cars had a little Dash pot mounted to the Carb linkage to keep this from happening.
I would guess that the explosions in the muffler has broken something loose. Probably a baffle rattling around.

Great! Is there any way to correct this since this is one of Plowmans high flow muffler. Hate to have to buy another one.
