Yamaha G2 won't start
I'm having a little trouble with my G2. It was running fine and all of a sudden quit. Sometimes it will turn over, but doesn't start. Other times it won't even turn over. If you lift the seat, it seems like it will try to start better than if the seat is down. If you bounce on the seat it seems to come and go. When it does start it wants to backfire. I have checked the wiring and it all seems fine, although this does seem like an electrical issue to me. I have checked for gas and spark and it has both. I am wondering if there is enough spark though. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Re: Yamaha G2 won't start
You may have multiple problems here. You need to get the cart to the point where it cranks reliably every time you press the pedal. Once you fix this cranking problem, you can then troubleshoot the running issues. I would start by cleaning and tightening all the high current starting connections (including both battery terminals). Then make sure your battery is fully charged and healthy by having a load test performed at the auto parts dealer. Hopefully this servicing will let the cart crank reliably every time. For the running issues, I would start by putting in a new spark plug and observe your running issues from there. Good luck - RAY

Re: Yamaha G2 won't start
Thank you for the respond Ray. I just figured it out. It is the igniter/CDI. I did find it kind of weird that I still had spark with a bad cdi, but that is definitely it. Anyone know where I could find a new one? Do they make a performance one?
Thanks. Brian |

Re: Yamaha G2 won't start
Good news that you found the problem. Bad news that the solution is pretty pricey. I'm sure one of our site sponsors can help you. Check them first. I've read here that OEM igniters are your best bet but also the most expensive. A new igniter won't cure your intermittent cranking problem. Good luck - RAY
