Batteries not charging completely
I sold my EZGO Marathon 36 volt cart to a friend a few months ago. At the time I sold it everything was fine with it. Now he says that it won't charge up the batteries pass 35.2 volts. He said he checked the charger and it is putting out 43 volts but it doesn't matter how long it tries to charge the batteries they don't come all the way back up to full charge. I ask him if he had done anything to the cart after he bought it and he said he filled the batteries all the way to the top. I have been keeping the water level about a quarter to half inch above the plates. Would filling the batteries all the way to the top cause the problem? I bought the batteries new about a year ago and never had a problem with the charger or the batteries. Sorry for the long post. Thank you

Re: Batteries not charging completely
I bet that made a big mess when he charged it and all of the electrolyte whent everywhere. he has probably killed at least one battery. if one is dead it wont charge or drive around very well. have him get voltage reading on each battery

Re: Batteries not charging completely
Thank you for your response. I just called my friend and read to him what you said. He said that he understood what you meant about boiling the water out of the batteries but that never happened. He also said that all the batteries are reading 5.8 to 6.0. Is there another test that can be done to see if the problem is the batteries or the charger? Thanks again

Re: Batteries not charging completely
Don't really know what I'm talking about, but I think the whole PAC has to show over 36 volts, or the charger won't recognize the battery pack.
May have to charge each batt, one at a time, till they show a combined 36 volts. |

Re: Batteries not charging completely
Just for an update on my friends problem, the voltmeter on the charger was fried. Therefore the charger was not sending any voltage to the battery pack. We disconnected the wires to the voltmeter and connected them together to make a circuit and the batteries charged up to normal. Thank you all for your help and replies.
