Lights went out!
Help, please.
I have a 1992 G-9 Yamaha gas cart. Runs just swell, but....recently, when driving at night, the headlights were beginning to flicker. I could find no loose wires, etc. Well...this evening, the entire lightsing system just went dark. Everything--signal lights, brake lights, everything. Cart runs just fine, but.... Where shall I start looking for the problem. thanks. Cliff |

Re: Lights went out!
Not to be a smart a$$, but I'd start with checking the connections at the battery.
A connection has worked its way loose somewhere. |

Welcome to BGW! It does sound like a connection issue.

Re: Lights went out!
Yep, have already checked the battery connections, and wires to/from...no obvious problems there. The flickering suggests a loose conncection, but so far I haven't located it.
There is a fuse in the line (it's a 30 amp, apparently; the specs call for a 10 amp., I believe? dunno' why. It's always been there. ???)of course, and it looks OK. I'll keep serching for loose wires. Thanks! Cliff |

Re: Lights went out!
Are you checking resistance, voltage, or just visual?

Re: Lights went out!
Could be in your switch. Sometimes the contacts can get corroded and cause them to do that. Check your continuity with a ohm meter you might find your problem there.

Re: Lights went out!
Thanking you for the advice and info!!
Mostly I've been doing visual checks. No ohm meter, etc involved. I shall go to that next---and check the switch as well. Thanks. Cliff |

Re: Lights went out!
Rusty, Redneck, Niner...
Some progress on "no lights" situation. I have the lights back. There seems to be a loose connection inside the fuse housing, loose enough so that the "tabs" which slide into the "slots" allowed the fuse (apparently) to slop around. Anyway....squeezed the little slots together, got a new fuse at the Yamaha GC place (says the fuse could have been bad, although it didn't look like it) and....the lights are back on. But....still have the flickering, which one of the service people at Yamaha says could be a "loose ground wire." I looked at the wiring diagram for the cart, and there are (I think...) two different grounds shown. Kinda' coming from the coil or something. I suspect unless I locate the source of the flicker, fuses will keep going bad? Maybe not. Where/how can I find where the ground wires are located--please? Thanks. Cliff |
