Default Piston Taper?

I have a 80'ish Yamaha G1, It was built by someone before me. I broke the piston 2 weeks ago and ordered a new piston, bearings and seals. Finally got the parts and go to check the piston and it gets very tight once the skirts get to the hole. Measure the piston and it has taper from the top to the bottom of the skirt of about .008" is this normal? I'm thinking I have a bad piston? Also the bearing they sent me one is way too small, the seals appear correct but the small bearing is way too small. Was this smaller on certain years?
Any and all help is much appreciated,
Mike

The head of the piston tends to expand more and faster than the skirt hence the taper. Your lucky it is only .008. The Wiseco piston I purchased for my Polaris was .020 and rattled from the day I installed it. Probably didn't get 50 hours on it before there was no compression. No more Wiseco products for me.

You do not want to run that piston if it is tight in the bore. I can't give you any specs on your engine but the piston should not be a tight fit. You will need to have the cylinder machined to fit the piston or it will seize shortly after you start it. I just ordered a piston for a Polaris 2 cycle engine and it needs at least .003 piston clearance.

With the piston in the bore, measure the piston to wall clearance, make sure its in spec.(a rough spec.would be .003"-.008"-.008 being ready for a rebore).Too loose, and it will rattle and wear the cylinder and/or damage the piston, too tight, and it will seize. The measurements need to be taken 90-degrees from the wrist-pin,and in the skirt-area,the ring-land area is normally smaller by design.Hope this helps.

The piston skirts are interfering by about .0005-.001. I'm trying to get a new piston from the vendor. The sleeve measures pretty good, except for two scratches.
Thanks for the help,
Mike
