Default homemade front bumper project.

Thought I would share my project. Got a g1 for 300 bucks, decided to try and make a front bumper for it.

What type of pipe did you use, and what did you use to bend it?

I have been eyeing up the tubing benders at Harbor Freight for years, but never picked one up. I'm getting closer....next time I see them on sale.

Thanks mike.
Coho I actually used 1” thick walled galvanized conduit. I don't expect to hit anything, so its more look than actual function. I did this all at work so it was free.. Which makes it that much better! The bender was a tripod type like this.

I'll get some more pics. I brought it home to measure and see where I need to weld mounting brackets.

I bought one of the Harbor Freight 12 ton pipe benders and started making my bumper using it. I bent 1" galv. water pipe from my well. It worked well and didn't kink, but gets tiring real quick with the pumping, bend a little, move pipe and start over. You have to make a big bend by moving the pipe and bending a little at a time in each place.

So I took the jack off and converted the bender to mount on my 22 ton wood splitter. It works great now. I can hole the pipe with one hand and run the hydraulics with the other. Makes short work of making bends for bumpers and other things.

The bumper looks pretty good. I bet it will look great mounted up. The link below will take you to pictures and the story.

**** that's a nice setup smokindawg. I may need to invest in something of that nature. I'm debating lights now.. Looking for ideas of type and where they should mount. Got the body off the cart to do body work and repaint. I was thinking gunmetal gray. Stock bumper is giving me a ridiculously hard time to remove so I may just cut it off and make my own brackets to weld to the frame.

I don't have a bender so I just cut angles on everything. Turned out Redneck, like the rest of the cart, so it's perfect. The bumper is a piece of 4'' angle that I fabbed up to replace the cowl and the brush guard is 1 x 1/8 sq tubing. I got the basic shape idea from stephenpaull on here. I have Leds as light. First mounted them directly to the brush guard and they stuck out too far. I welded some tabs on the back side of the brush guard and they look better now.

Here's the bumper I have so far. I'm going to add a bottom part and a winch mount when I get time.

Gives you an idea of what I've done with my converted bender. Also the lights, they came from Harbor Freight and were around $11 each. I've not hooked them up yet but they should put off plenty of light.
