how is timing set ?

my cart is pinging way before TDC BOTH WAYS
fairly hard too as it can stop the motor for a sec

I do not understand how the heck it does that !!!!!!!!!!!!
as if off one way BTDC it should be ATDC the other direction
or have I got this totally wrong

I think the timing plate is timed to Tdc, with the advance duties being handled by the ignition control box.

got the g-1 with 250 snmo carb and top end runing but it is ping/knocking
like it is getting an extra random spark way before TDC sometimes
it even knocks on starting fluid ?
can a bad the ignition control box throw random out of timing sparks ?
or will bad wires cause this problem ?

HELP

NEVER run a 2 stroke on starting fluid. No oil = bad things.

It sounds like something isn't right. 2 strokes don't ping....well actually they do, that's all they do, LOL. I'm wondering if you have something loose in there. Was this engine running before? What has changed? It could be running too lean?

The timing is controlled by the cdi/electronic module. If you are having performance issues, I'd look to the basics first. Fuel (new and clean), Oil mix (factory oil pump working?), and new plug. Check your air filter, does it have one? No air filter will cause a lean condition.

extra oil pored in before cranking
no odd noise cranking plug out or in with wire off
lite spray of starting fluid used motor cold to start POP-POP-POP] only not to run
motor stops in cranking cycle before starting by knock/ping/from random spark?
strong kick to dead stop sometimes against starter cranking
randomly pop/kick not every rotation maybe 1 in 10-20 revs on the starting fluid
no fire on other strokes
it is ether detonation WHEN COLD or RANDOM SPARK way before TDC
but seems why too early in stroke to be detonation ESP WHEN COLD

WIRES ARE A MESS FROM PREVIOUS OWNER
I have a wiring diagram and had to re-connect some

stock can and filter used with stock rubber pipe +pvc to
1 1/2 to 2'' rubber pipe/plumbing adepter used to seal carb with clamps
air way IS SEALED FILTER TO CARB

so all air is coming thru filter

why no reeds and or no choke in carb ????
choke is valve/butterfly on ext ? as I closed that to get to start

checked timing with induction lite looks good just before TDC
oil mixed with gas unsure if oilpump works
fuel tank replaced with gravity feed tank bypass gas pump
