Default Yamaha G2 starting problems

Hello.

My old G2 quit running in the middle of a golf round this past weekend. It ran fine for about 13 holes, then just wouldn't start back up.

When I got it home, I noticed it looked like it was flooded. I drained the bowl on the carb and it ran good so I parked it. Yesterday, it wouldn't start at all. I drained the bowl and again and it still wouldn't start. There wasn't much gas in the tank so I went ahead and drained the tank and put some new gas in it. After some tinkering, it got where it would just almost start. I pulled the plug and it was carboned up real bad and didn't look like it was producing a real strong spark. I bought a new NGK plug this morning and it is doing the exact same thing with the new plug. I took the carb off and sprayed it out real good with carb cleaner. I did not disassemble it completely as I ran out of time to mess with it.

When I take the breather off and try to start it, it appears as though it might be trying to fire back through the carb. It blew the carb cleaner back out at me when I sprayed it in while cranking it.

Here is a video of it trying to start.

I will add that I put a new starter/generator on it about two weeks ago. It ran fine on the new starter up until this past weekend.

I'm sure it something simple. I just wanted to see if any of you guys know which direction I should take next.

Thanks!!

Thank you for your reply.

The battery was new last fall. It shows 12.4v. If the battery pulls down when cranking, will it cause the motor to only hit every once in a while?

I am going to tear the carb apart tonight.

Ok. I took the carb apart and cleaned everything really good. It still acts the same.

I guess I'll try a new battery next.

I would check your valve adjustment, when mine was backfiring through the carb a valve adjustment fixed it.

Thank you. I'm looking for my feeler gauge.

How's the fuel maybe the fuel pump is not working properly or clogged. Or fuel filter dirty?

The pump seems to be pumping plenty of fuel.

I'm going to pick up a set of feeler gauges today. I took the valve cover off last night and the rocker arms seem way to tight to me. They have no play in them at all.

Ok. Valves are set and the cart is still doing the same thing. It only "hits" about every other time the motor turns over.

I put a spark checker on it and the spark seems good. I'm going to pull the battery out of my truck to test with next.
