Need help with Solenoid on older Yahmaha
Hello everyone. I am new to Yamaha golf carts, but I do own two EZGO two strokes. I need help with this, here is the story.
My neighbor asked me to fix this cart for her mother who has cancer and husband just past away and I thought how tough could it be, they cant be that much different than my EZGo's, but I was wrong. I do not know the exact model or serial number ( I believe a G1) as I can not read the entire number. It is a two stroke. A friend of the mother tried to fix it and said the solenoid was bad and gave them numbers to purchase two new solenoids which they did. The problem lies in the new solenoids are much different than the originals and the person unhooked all the wires and did not label anything. I have since drilled out the holes in the wire ends to adapt to the new solenoid and made copper jumpers like shown in a picture they gave me. I put it all together and nothing. I have 12V at the battery. The fuses are good. The starter has 12v at all four leads (strange). The positive from battery goes to the back side of starter to the lug. The other three wires go to the solenoid. I have tried so many different combinations with no change. Please help. |

Re: Need help with Solenoid on older Yahmaha
Look in the stickies above for wiring diagram for G1. G1 uses two solenoids one forward one reverse. It changes starter/gen direction and uses a different ignition pickup for each direction. You just have to wire them right for the starter direction, also check for bad grounds or bad battery cables, blown fuses, bad connectors in the wires, all very common for old yamaha carts but cheap and easy to fix. Once you get the gen to spin the motor over then you can work on getting it to run. One of the best carts made though they are noisy and stinky compared to new ones, and getting up there in age. The key selects what solenoid to run.
