Default How do I know if my primary clutch needs rebuilt

How do you know if your primary clutch needs rebuilt? What does it do?

First thing I'd do is take it apart and inspect it. Look for worn weights and pins. Those parts should be clean and relatively tight. If it's been neglected and has high hours/miles, it's prob time to rebuild or purchase a new one. Sometimes symptoms can't really tell a whole lot. It's better to get eyeballs on it.

Your in good hand with Slo, but your clutch will have rollers. When you pull the clutch cover off, you will notice it has rollers that the weights slide against. If those rollers have flat spots on them, (they probably do), you need to replace them. CCP, vender on here will have them, (best price). Don't do ebay or any other cheap place. CCP is where to get good parts, or Plowmans!!

If you send it to Plowman's they will replace a lot more than just the rollers. I'm very happy with the rebuilt clutch they did for the G22.

They usually will not shift right; so either they bog on takeoff or hills or they limit top speed because they are not shifting out all the way. They can knock a little as broken parts can make them unbalanced. If you mark the inside of sheaves with a marker and drive it, it will not take all the marker off and show you it is shifting all the way bottom to top.

Ray, you need to remove the prim clutch cover and actually look at the moving parts inside. There are 3 rollers around the outside edge of the sheave. They are suppose to be round, no flat spots worn in them. If they are not perfectly round, your clutch is not working to maximum potential. Also what Slo said about extra loose parts, (meaning weights etc).

Also needs to be clean in there, doesn't hurt to spray brake cleaner on those moving parts.

Then only 1 pump of grease in the zirk. if any grease comes out, need to wipe it off, so it doesn't fling out all over inside the clutch cover, or on the outslde shaft area, don't want it getting on the belt.
