G2 with heavy blow by! Need input!
I did some trading recently for a Yamaha gas cart. It's a G2 and I actually bought it with the understanding from the owner that the motor was locked up. When I picked it up I found it to be in pretty good shape, other than the seats in sad shape and it needing some cleaning.
I originally planned to remove the rear and install it in my G1 with the lift and the 8hp briggs engine. But the carts too clean to part out. I also found that the engine wasn't locked up and in about 20 minutes I had it running. While working on it though I found that someone had run it for what looks like quite some time with no filter in it. When trying to start it there is gas being spit out the carb. I also found that once it's running it smokes bad and has so much blow by that it is blowing oil out the fill tube. It also has very little power for pulling a hill. I'm thinking the engine needs the top end rebuilt at the least. So, this is where your input comes in. Should I rebuild the engine and if so, where can I get the parts the most reasonably priced? I did want to give other variables, I'm going to build a lift for the cart and put 10" wheels with larger tires. So how well will this engine do if I did rebuild it? Another option is pulling the motor and possibly selling/parting out the things I won't need if I install a bigger engine. The bigger engine being the 992cc Generac engine. I already have two engines, new intake, Minkuni Carb, cold air intake parts and filter and a new drive clutch. All purchased from Lurch. Only thing is I need to come up with a new crank to do away with the taper the easiest. New crank $120 plus shipping. Thing is, I can rebuild the original engine and just re-install and be running. If I go with the swap I'll have too make a new mounting plate and make quite a few other changes. Of course that being said, If I do the swap I plan on linking the rear end, building my own long travel front end and lengthen as well as widen the entire suspension. And I do have the G1 and a side by side I can ride while I'm working on the G2 Torque Monster. So I'm leaning that way, but still want input from other members as to what you'd do and why! Of course, and I still need to find a G2 rear end too put in the G1 so I can get reverse back. So speak up, give me some ideas. Anyone need a rebuildable G2 engine? And what's it worth with exhaust, filter housing and clutch? |

Oil rings are bad, common problem. Usually the compression is still ok. Usually Will run fine, and drink oil.

Re: G2 with heavy blow by! Need input!
Well, if that's true as far as the oil rings, do these engines have heavy blow by when running correctly?
I just figured that all the rings were bad from dirt and dust being sucked into the engine. Guess I will just have too get a compression gauge and check that before I go too far. I guess if I could ring the engine and make it right I might do that for now. |

You just don't know till the compression check and motor dismantled , hone and ring end gap checked. Many times it's just bad oil rings.

Re: G2 with heavy blow by! Need input!
Those engines will blow oil out the fill hole when they are in perfect condition. They use "splash oiling", so there is oil flying everywhere in there whenever the engine is running. Plus its a 1 cylinder, the piston movement displaces lots of air in the crankcase as its moving up & down, its not evened out by a adjacent piston moving up at the same time its moving down.

Re: G2 with heavy blow by! Need input!
Ok, I'll have to do the tests and go from there.
If I can fix this one easily, I'd rather keep looking for a donor cart that does need an engine so that I can build my fun toy. |
