Default safty switch on drag cart

I took the key switch off and wired in a lock out toggle switch & install it on the steering wheel. If the solenoid sticks open while cart is under power will the toggle switch shut the cart down?

Ok. I came up with a east tn safety switch. Use a marine grade battery selector. They usually have it set up for on/one battery, on/two battery, and totally off. And wire it between your batteries and the solenoid.

Bc i don't know that turing off the controller would stop the power going to the solenoid.

I too would like to hear Nate's answer to this. I'm thinking it might depend upon why the solenoid stuck 'closed'. Whether it is an actuivation circuit problem or it is welded. But I think if it is welded shut, well, it's welded! Another thought is to wire a kill switch into the controller 'power up' wire and shut it down there if the solenoid becomes welded?

Why not use a master cut off switch at the main pos. or neg. on the pack?

Dirty that is what I said in my post. Seesh.

Hey scotty, that is what GB has already in his kill switch. Instead of a key on the dash he has one of these.

on his steering wheel.

D/S once BJ is strapped in the set he has limited movement. It has to be in arms reach with out leaning forward,
Would a toggle switch wired that way hold up?

I understand that. You should be able to mnt it close enough for him to reach without it being on the steering wheel. #34 has one mounted directly behind the driver seat. I would think you should be able to mount a switch somewhere around the batt. box that he could reach. Jus' throwin' ideas ot there...

ok this might be silly.

What about two solenoids?

the one controlled by the controller and the other wired to a switch that just turns on/off on the negative side of the motor or pack.

so start up would go. turn on negative solenoid, turn on controller switch. then if something goes wrong turn them both off?
