I am also interested in this info. I have an 2008 RXV and with stock 18" tires with the governor adjusted all I can get is 15MPH out of it. Is this the norm? I have looked at high speed gears that claim and additional 10MPH, but I wonder how much low end power is lost. I am about to lift and put 23" tire and see how much speed I get there.

Also, any cams, heads with larger valves + larger jets/carb? Polishing intake/exhaust ports? Anyone offer these services?

Not trying to high jack the thread, just trying to get as much info in one thread as we can. I've raced cars, dirt bikes, and boats but just getting into golf cart, the need for speed is real!!!

EZ_GO has an clutch upgrade kit on their parts page under engine> clutches. its HD 28 degree setup.
Texas that seems really low, i took out the throttle cable slack and that got me to 19 MPH, and after tinkering with the governor i was up to 26 MPH on stock tires but i was worried i would start blowing **** up. i set my governor back to the original place and adjusted slack back into the throttle cable to keep it at 17 MPH consistent.

When I bought mine the front clutch had issues so I bought the clutch kit from EZ-Go that had the front and rear clutches plus the belt. At the time that was cheaper than just the front clutch alone. Much more torque. Also I have read there are mods that can be made to that motor to get it in the high teens of HP but none are easy. As for the governor, I have mine set so with 21 inch tires it runs right at 26 mph at 4K rpm. Any faster and the engine doesn't like it.. Buy a tach.. Also there are reports the governor gears are plastic and can fail if spun to fast which equates to bad things..

I thought that was really slow too LS1. I has me puzzle though. I'm getting wide open throttle based in the butterfly on the carb. What else should I try? I'm not confident that I totally understand the governor configuration. It seems fairly simply, just afraid I may be missing something. I thought this thing would go much faster once adjusted.

i use a GPS app on my iphone to gauge speed. do you see that L shaped bracket on the rear diff ? the throttle cable connects to it, and the throttle linkage off the carb also connects to it. on mine if has a 10 mm bolt on it. i used a sharpie to mark the original position on the bolt then loosened it and adjusted inward abit and drove it using my phone to gauge speed. if my speed decreased i went the opposite direction.

look on page 13 (A-2) item 13, 21&22. the bolt (item 13) it the 10mm bolt on my 2013 rxv i am referring too. loosening that bolt and spreading apart or closing up item 21&22 will increase/decrease your maximum speed. i would not go past 19-20 mph as you may blow up the governor gear in the rear diff.
after you find your top speed you most likely will have to re-adjust your throttle cable slack to eliminate backfires.

My way. Take off the drive belt. Take the acceleration cable off, loosen the bolt holding the linkage going to the carb. Set the idle so it will start and stop without issues. Now hold the linkage against the idle stop and spin the governor to the stop where it would be at idle and tighten the bolt. Hook the cable back up and tweak speed by the cable adjustment. If you just spread the two brackets it may not let it idle and will be jerky at start.. As a note, my governor bracket was misaligned and had to adjust that too.
