Message me your PayPal and how much! This ‘82 doesn’t like idling on pre-mix. 70:1 seems like too much oil.

Here's some info

You can mix at whatever you want, but more oil isn't necessarily better. For chain saws, trimmers, and blowers the engine runs at near max rpm for long periods of time. More oil is required in these situations. For the Yamaha G1 golf cart engine, low speed and low rpm are "normal conditions", which requires much less oil. If you mix at 50:1, you'll have a mosquito fogging machine.

I ran 85:1 for two years with no wear whatsoever, using Echo brand air cooled 2 cycle oil and a fuel conditioner. I ran 100:1 for almost a year with better results, less smoke and no oil drips from the muffler. It actually ran much better at 100:1. The engine is disassembled now and you can still see the cross hatching inside the cylinder.

The engine seems “unhappy” at anything but WOT is probably the best way to describe it. Unless it’s floored it sputter and spits and gives fits. Even at WOT it’s not happy until it’s not just warm, but Hot. We took a good 5 mike ride and got her good and heated up and she started running great but was smoking like a mosquito fogger I used to chase down the steeets as a kid. (What’s a little DEET among friends?). And the engine gives that distinct sound and feeling of “I wanna do more!!” But just can’t. I have the governor maxed out, and I’m sputtering to 15.5mpg by GPS

I have the DISTINCT feeling that she’s a little carbon fouled- and in need of new plugs (Chanpion in there...) some non-ethanol gas, a good dose of RingFree, and some halfway decent 2-stroke oil. Gotta run this tank of gas out first. My experience with Yamaha oil injection is, “they know best.” If it was a Kohler or Johnson, we’de Be having a different conversation.

So if I can get it back to factory, that’s my goal.

Heck, isn’t that the goal of all classic owners? To keep them running as intended or better?

PS - compression test came back in the 100-105 range - would upload a picture, but always have trouble with that from my phone.

when you slightly step on the pedal it activates the starter generator then at off idle it takes off. At every stop it shuts off. I swear im not being smart it was so weird for me that it "died" when you let off the throttle I kinda went circles for a bit.

This being said I have not tested this oil injection pump and not really sure how to. I think there are a few people that have rigged up ways to test them.

I premix so I don't have to worry about oil injector failure. It happens. they use so little oil its hard to tell if the are working. It was supposedly designed that if it failed it would over inject causing smoking but they can fail lean and destroy an engine.

Had not realized you were so close. Cool
Completely agree they aren’t intended to “idle” in the traditional sense. But Matt carved engine needs a baseline right? Even in the manual they discuss properly setting the idle and the pitot screw. I think of them as starting points for the power band and good solid running.

The OP wants to reinstall the factory oil injection system. I simply stated how I run my cart.

If he did the oil delete id recommend him to play with the oil mix unitl he got the results he wanted. You have to remember not many of these carts are stock anymore. Everyone wants more speed and adjusts out the governor which lets the engine run at higher RPM. These engines are old and loose if not gone thought. And yes the injection is supposed to automatically adjust for this.

Ive had my cart well over a year now. When I first got it running I started at 80 to 1 and dropped it from there. When I first got the running it smoked a little bit and after installing a BBQed muffler it did a bit. I have been running 50:1 with synthetic oil and rec fuel for easily a year ant the cart doesn't smoke at all. I also run it on the street at WOT almost daily. My plug is a nice happy light brown and there is no oil coming from the exhaust.

not everyone agrees with this. Most do run their carts at 100:1 or so. There are some here that do run it that thick. Just do your homework and find what your cart likes

Yeah some like to run the stock oil injection system. And some remove it. You have to do what you think is best. And I have seen all different mixes. 50.1 75.1 80.1 100.1 132.1 150.1. The only real problem you see with these motors is. Bad crank seals, or low compression

Well I went a little overboard this AM (and afternoon as my wife informed me...)

The previous owner did the delete “correctly” as I see it and put a block off plate where the pump used to be. But there was definite oil leaking before, so not sure if there was a pump failure or what.

Anyway, I degreased the block as best I could. Also dod everything I could get with a brush or rag. I put in a correct NGK plug, removed, soaked, sprayed, rebuilt and retuned the carb. Then I removed and emptied the gas tank (By the way, the PO must have been running REALLY oiled and the gas just didn’t look right. Almost bright blue.). I ran out the gas in the carb bowl and fuel lines with the rear wheels up. Sputtering and unhappy.

Then magic happened. I refilled with ethanol free rec-fuel at ‘ 85:1 for safety sake. Debated 100:1 but figured it was used to heavy oil maybe the next batch will get less oil.

Took a few minutes. But now she idles (kinda) with the pedal pressed in and not releasing the parking brake. Give it a few pumps to WOT to get her going and then hang on.

Whole new cart.

Bad gas is a problem in boats as much as in golf carts apparently!

Still want to get the factory oil injection back set up. But I’m happy that she is running like (I think) she’s supposed to.

I’ll really have to start a refresh/refurb thread haha. Sorry guys
