Default Wanted Melex 512 rear axle and differential

Our old Melex 512 chewed up it's differential. Looks like part #012AJ143-1

The motor is still kicking, seems to have 18 tooth spline drive.

Anyone have a direct replacement? Hard to find I know - but there must be a similar axle out there somewhere.

I'll add a couple photos and can provide dimensions if anyone has something they think might work.

Shipping would be to Orange County CA or pick up if you're in the Southern California area.

Many thanks!
-Dan

Maybe it's 19 tooth spline since Vintage Golf Carts lists many 19 spline motors and no 18 tooth spline.

chewed up it's differential--What does this mean?. What is wrong with the rear?. It looks like a 91 - 94 Marathon ezgo rear end

The ring gear teeth are damaged, I'm guessing the intermediate shaft which meshes with the ring gear is also damaged and in mopping up the oil I found a tooth from one of the gears...can't get the ring gear to spin around enough by hand to see whether the tooth is from the ring or intermediate. The input shaft to intermediate gears look nice, but I haven't removed anything other than the bottom cover to see what was happening inside.

Thanks for the tip on the Marathon rear end. I'll take a look at those as well.

A quick bump to the top...

In my searching intermediate and final drive gears seem difficult at best to locate and I'm not finding anything as far as complete rear ends go either.

Feeling like I'm going to scrap this old cart unless anyone knows of anything else which might fit...and not require tons of my time and difficult to source parts to install...

Thanks everyone-

Dan, those carts used some of the same parts as EZ-GO. Have you checked to see if that is an EZ-GO rear? If not, maybe an EZ-GO rear will work.

Yes, i agree with Mooncarter here. the original and earlier models were pretty much direct clones with the early EZGO carts, made in Poland from around 1971. I am not sure when they changed to a plastic body and whether the running gear was changed, but i am pretty sure early ezgo parts should fit. For a definitive answer just Google "Vintage golf car parts", give them a call and they should set you up with good info.

EDIT.

I see you already know about Vintage golf car parts. LOL

Thanks guys. I am indeed familiar with Vintage Golf Cart Parts.

I have talked with them about this rear end - and they didn't have anything for me but they did refer me to ***********.com. I've called them but haven't heard back yet.

In searching this rear end does look somewhat like the mid-90s Marathon rear end and possibly even a Western rear end (don't recall year) but I've only found one possible match so far on Ebay for $400+100s&h and I still have some questions before I'm totally ready to send my money away.

Also, though many parts are very similar or possibly even the exact same as ezgo parts - they are rarely ever referenced that way and so I'm relying on other's greater experience than my own. Just really hoping for a few good leads. I'm able to re-build but haven't seen the required shaft and gears nor have I been very successful locating rear ends which look very close to what I have.

Thanks again for any more info anyone is willing to share.

I would find an old Ez Go and put the whole rear end and motor in it before I would try to source a bunch of hard to find expensive parts.

Just my 2 cents.

Yes, understood. I'm not tied to the melex - I'm stuck without much money available in my budget and I've got guys who need these carts to work.

I guess I was just hoping that instead of hearing "lots of ezgo parts are compatible" I would get a solid answer like: "part #____ or part #___ were both common on those carts."

Thanks all for your responses.

Also, sorry for mentioning a site I shouldn't have. The Vintage Carts guys referred me over there.
