1994 G9 Roof Supports
I've tried just about everyplace to find the correct roof supports for a G9 without any luck. I did find a used set from a forum member but, the shipping charges are way to high so, now I'm at the point of trying to figure out a way to hide where the previous owner spliced the supports to lower the roof so he could get the cart into his storage shed. Anybody got an idea how to cover up
the joints? I did see a cart that had pipe insulation around the supports but, since I'm planning on painting and fixing up a little, I'd like to find a more appealing way to do it! Thanks JP |

Re: 1994 G9 Roof Supports
Go get a piece of square stock that will fit over the supports that are on the cart, and make it cover from top to bottom, as for the side covers, take them off and glue a piece on the in side, and fill it with bondo and paint it

Re: 1994 G9 Roof Supports
Ok, I got it (I think) but, the supports that are on there now are approx. 1" square so, in the back I'd need a single piece on both sides that are in excess of 2" to cover those 2 pieces that are overlapped now. Just seems like that's a pretty big piece. That does solve the problem in the front though.
Thanks JP |

Re: 1994 G9 Roof Supports
You don't need a 2" piece, you take off the bolts and plates that are on there now, now you are back to stock square tubes, if you say your square tubes that are holding the top up now is 1" OD out side diameter, you need to find a square tube that has an ID inside diameter of 1 1/8" ID, and that should slide over the 1" square tubes that are on the cart now, making the new square tube about 1 1/4", put one piece of the new square tube over each one of your 1" square tubes and bolt it at the top and bottom, see what others come up with

Re: 1994 G9 Roof Supports
RIB,
Thanks a lot, that helps a great deal. The only thing is the back supports. When you look at the back supports in the first picture notice where the top support from the roof is side by side with the support coming from the support attached to the basket. I looked at the bends in both and I'm afraid if I try t put in a bend to join them somethings gonna break! There's about a 4" overlap so one of the supports will have to be cut, no big deal but, one of the two pieces will have to be bent so they line up. JP |
