Default Wiring 36V golft cart and reducer

Hey everyone, I know this has been posted a ton....I have looked and looked through them but can't find something that is like my cart or that is quite descriptive enough. I am having trouble hooking up the voltage reducer with my batteries, radio, lights, and voltage meter.

my cart is an old Harley D made by AMF....brand new batteries. here are a couple diagram, im no artist, rough drawing don't judge me :) LOL

can anyone help with my diagram? every time I go to start hooking it up it sparks, not just a small spark. I connect it all then 2nd to last the +battery cable, then voltage reducer negative and sparks, didn't even get to attaching the cart negative cable.

hope to get some help, I included a pic of the VM too. I have tried to use the diagrams ppl have posted. the one about the switchable DC voltage reducer

what do I have wrong here?

From your drawing you have it wire wrong. the yellow does not hook to the key switch, the yellow wire hooks to + radio + lights 12v, the black wire on the 12v side goes to the - radio - lights, you have the yellow hooked to the key switch and that should be 36 volts not 12 volts, and you have the Black - going to the + on the lights that's wrong, the 36 volt side of the reducer the black goes to the ground on the first battery in the pack, and the positive/red goes to the last battery +.

if you want the reducer to work off the key switch it needs to be wired like this. the wire with the red X in them need to be removed
