And it begins again for 2010. We have our first pictures of bucks in velvet at the protein feeder. We added a second protein feeder this year and captured a very pregnant doe using it. This is the same lease that Buford's hog pictures came from as well. George

Some of those bucks standing around the feeder have that "deer in the headlight" look.

I saw a 8pt less than 2 weeks ago still had its rack then 2 days later saw a buck growing his new antlers they were about 6" already. Also found some sheds at the end of December. Very weird year around here.

What kind of protein pellets are you feeding them?

I'm not sure the brand. We go to the local Co-op and buy deer protein. I think it's 16% or 18% protein. It might be Antler King but I can't remember. Maybe Buford does? I'm hoping to get back out there soon with some Whitetail Institute 30-06 mineral. I'll dig a hole for a mineral lick inside each of the protein feeder pens. The hogs love that mineral and I'd like to keep it for the deer.

We had deer keep antlers longer than normal too, but nothing into May for sure. Our largest buck dropped his between Feb 2 and Feb 16 based on trail cam pictures and that's normal to a touch early around here.

Interestingly, it is clear now that the furthest along buck we have is the same 11 pointer we watched (and hunted for) last year. If you check the first post from this thread you will see the same deer in the middle and right hand pictures. Those were from June 11 of 09, this one is from June 3 and he's not quite as far along. The beautiful 10pt we saw last year has not been in any photos and I'm assuming he was killed (sadly, not by anyone on our lease).

Our does are very heavy with fawns as well. I included a picture of 2 that look about to pop.

The bucks are growing. I'm getting excited about fall already.
