| That's very interesting, good eye. Up in Nebraska where I used to live, tame white turkeys were often seen in wild flocks after escaping before Thanksgiving. Perhaps when they cross with the wild birds there are new colors produced like that one. In addition, there are all kinds of specialty turkeys now. Here's a link to way more than I ever knew existed. http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/T...BRKTurkey.html The royal palms are my favorite. Who knows how many of those have made it into the wild. | Hey George, that is way more than I needed to know! But, you may be correct although this is north of Burnet around Buchanan where there is not much commercial turkey. My initial thought on the Dusted term on a bird like this was "Yeah, dusted by a coyote soon!" ![]() |

Yea sorry, I'm a little embarassed to say I used to have quite a few fancy poultry breeds. I think you're right, the off color birds are just easier for the coyotes and bobcats to see...and eat. George

Purchased a tom and hen decoy set from Wing Supply for dirt cheap. Saw a TV show that used "enhanced" decoys with real wing and tail feathers. So I kept the two tom sets of feathers from last Winter season to see how well I can "spruce up" the new deeks for this season. I already have hens and jakes scratching in my roads and fields. Can't wait...

Felt it was time to revive this old thread. Season in Alabama is March 15th-April 30th.

I hear ya. I've been chomping at the bit since it closed. I hate the wait. Only thing that keeps my sanity is building calls for 10 months. Our season in La starts March 19th. Gonna try to hit Tx again and maybe Ms. 870 is ready to bark!

I am in Western Maryland and we have to wait until April 18. I am looking forward to the day when I can start in Florida and work my way up the east coast and finish in Maine some time in late May. I will hunt the states that fit my budget and that fit in with a laid back travel schedule.
