I hunt near Evant, MLD III, we received 15 doe tags and 5 buck this year, so I still have to take some more does. Our gun season also starts two weeks earlier than the rest of the state, and will end the last weekend of Jan

I just have not seen a mature buck that interests me, lots of young 8 and 9 pointers out there this year.

Nice buck gstoneberg! We use the cart to get to and from the stand as well as hauling meat

Nice Treebass, that's a lot of shooting. We don't have quite that many deer. My lease is not that far from Evant, north and west near Cross Plains. Do you hog hunt too? I almost like that more than the deer hunting. A handful of us have been shooting the hogs with night vision and I have a .308 so equipped.

We have a couple beauties on the lease, a nice tall 8pt and a tall and wide 11pt. I'd love to see either one. However, the minute the guns start going off those old boys are nocturnal. If I lived closer I'd have spent a lot more time hunting and would've held out more.

Did you guys get some rain out of this last set of storms? Just saw the sun this morning for the first time in about a week. I canned my hunt this weekend as the lease would have been a quagmire. Might try again next week. Have a week of vacation left to burn up.

Good luck,
George

gstoneberg, we have alot of pigs, a 200# dressed was taken last week. I took out a small one last month, but have yet to see any with size during shooting hours. At night, thats another story....

The sun just popped out here a couple hours ago as well, and yea, I'm sure the lease is a mess right now. Been getting rain every day for the past week. I gotta pass on hunting this weekend as well, heading to Dallas for the weekend, work related, but next week its on! Some ducks are on the menu as well

I'm familiar with the cross plains area, almost got a lease up near coleman a few years back, very little cover, lots of peanuts. Been seeing alot of nice deer in Brownwood the last couple months as well.

That would be great, but our current rules state no guests, family only. We are hoping to change that for next year, but its been a fight the last couple years.

I can't even bring folks out to shoot hogs, which are an issue out there! Just don't make sense to me, but I guess if you own it, you can make the rules

That's too bad, especially about the hogs. Most landowners want them gone really bad. I have restrictions on guests during deer season until Dec and then I can, with permission, bring a guests but they hunt off my tags. With hogs I can pretty much do what I want as long as I let everybody know. I'm the only one who hunts them for the most part. I'm starting to get places to hog hunt closer to Dallas so I won't drive way out west as often.

We have the late doe/spike season until Jan15 so I have some time left. Hate to burn 2012 vacation though.

Hogs can be a serious problem. I have a house and acreage in Louisiana. Most of the property is in a family estate. We had a serious hog problem about 10 years ago. After hunting season ended, I rounded up a bunch of hog hunters, brought in the dogs and horses. We hunted hogs on and off for several weeks. I also allowed people to trap hogs. After it was all over with we were pretty much hog free for about 8-10 years but now, the hogs are back in number.
I’ll do a repeat of what I did last time starting about the end of January.

Saw you guys talking about Evant, this buck was taken in Lometa by my buddies grandson. There are some nice bucks in that area, I've seen a few with very dark horns like you find in Mexico. The lease changed from family to hunter only so we got off it a few years back, would sure like to find another in that area though!

The second pic is a friend of mine's wife's bow kill this year.......makes you kind of jealous.....the deer, I mean......

Took this buck yesterday while black powder hunting.

I still use the old side hammer gun with no scope and lead balls we pour ourselves. Saw this guy in the morning, so I moved to a stand near by for the evening hoping he'd just reverse his direction. And luckily he did.
