Re: Deer hunters?
Well, I guess getting the link right would probably be a crucial step in getting people to check out the page....whoops!!
Lets try this again: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Whitet...22203317803913 I think the issue is that I had it as an https link in the first post. Try it now as an http. I think the "secure" connection may have been the issue. |

Re: Deer hunters?
^^^
Thanks!!! We try to do our best with it. I do all the writing and all the leg work associated with the blog but my brother inlaw helps with alot of the habitat stuff and food plot work that we do on the property. We are in the property together and once the season rolls around he pops up in the writing a lot more as I talk about how the season is going and do reports from the field and what not. We are discussing doing some filming this year as well so there may be some video's popping up on the site soon as well. I can't promise any hollywood quality productions (especially at first) but we'll do our best with it. If you are in to hunting and are on Facebook you may want to follow the page. I am lining up some more products for reviews and giveaway's and will be doing the giveaway's through the Facebook page. Even if you never read a single entry you may want to get in on the giveaways for a shot at some free gear. Thanks for checking it out though, I appreciate it. |

Re: Deer hunters?
Very Cool!
I'm impressed at the quality of your trail cam photos. Ours were, well, mediocre. What kind of cams are those? |

I don't know about his, but the best I've ever used are Reconyx. I've got one and it takes much more and better quality than my Cuddeback or my Leaf River. They really cost a lot though.

We have had good success with our M-80 recently and got a lot of good video's and pictures with it last year and this year. On the Facebook site the video of the turkeys strutting is from the M-80. I know that some people last year were saying the have had issues with their M80's but we haven't. The Wildgame IR4's are really cheap and do a pretty good job but they are kind of a throw away camera in my mind. I only paid about 65 bucks for each of mine and we use them alot. I got two good years out of the one and this will be the third year for the other one. If you don't want to spend alot but want to take some pictures I think they are a good option, just realize what you are buying and have realistic expectations. I would love to have Reconyx cam's because they get a lot of great reviews but for what they cost I can go out and buy two (or even three) other brand cam's and cover a lot more ground. |

Re: Deer hunters?
I think the heat kills them here. They sometimes even have the battery swollen up!

Re: Deer hunters?
We pulled the cams a few weeks back and were excited to find our first good bucks of the season. The pictures were taken back on the 6th of June and the bucks are part of a bachelor group that looks to be about 6 bucks strong. I think the two good bucks are going to be at least 3.5 years old this fall and I know at least one other buck in the group was around last year as a 1.5yr old so he'll be 2.5 this fall.
This buck has similar characteristics to a buck we had around last year. The buck last year was a 2.5yr old 8pt and he had a high sweeping rack, similar to what this buck seems to be growing. We never heard of anyone around us harvesting that buck last year but we also never saw him after season. It's too early to tell if it is him or not but it would be really cool if it was. I passed him last year with my bow so getting to see him this year would be a real treat! Here is a video of that same buck. At the end of the video you can see the rest of the bachelor group start passing the camera. (click on the picture to play the video) This buck looks eerily similar to a buck from last year that we called Corners. We know it isn't him though because Corners was killed by the neighbor during gun season. Corners was a really wide 10pt that scored 128 so we would love to see this buck continue to follow that same path. Due to him looking just like Corners we have started calling him Shadow. At the end of this video of Shadow there is a smaller buck walking down the lane facing the camera. If you look at his right ear you can see that it has a really noticeable split in it. This buck was around our place last year as a small 3 or 4pt so it will be interesting to see what he becomes this year as a 2yr old deer. I actually rattled one morning last year and had this buck come flying in out of a thick area right to the base of my tree looking for a fight. He gave me lots of oppourtunities for a shot and I kept thinking "I hope you do this again in a year or two" so maybe this year I'll get my wish. We'll see what he becomes and if he makes my list or not. My personal standards are 2.5 or older and if it's a 2.5 it needs a good rack as well so I know he'll meet the age criteria but we'll see about his rack. |
