Default Texas Hogs

I don't get on the forum much anymore, but I've gotten out the last 3 weekends in a row hog hunting a cut corn field in northeast Texas not too far from Paris. My shooting has been reasonably poor, but I've killed 3 pigs, all with night vision on my .308. I've made 2 videos from these hunts. We used the old melex cart on the last 2 hunts. I didn't get any video on the 2nd hunt because I never got a shot. The hogs were 210#, 270# and the last one I didn't tape, but I suspect she was between 75 and 100lbs. The farmer was real happy they were all sows. I'll probably go back tomorrow night if he hasn't plowed that field or put the cattle in it.

way to go! can't get enough of those suckers. do some counties still offer a bounty up there? i'm pretty sure they used to. we have only seen one large group here, but they are all around and spreading. would be fun to do one of those helicopter hunts also.

As far as I know, there are no hog bounties. I wish there were. I'm headed out again tonight, but lost my video cable last time. May be able to build a replacement if I can find the right video connectors. If not, I won't get video.

The farm we hunted in the videos has been chopper hunted twice. They killed over 130 the first time and a much smaller number the second.

Thats awesome, It has just become legal to hunt in Louisiana during closed deer season at night for hogs. I plan to purchase some night vision optics to put on my .22 mag. Close range shooting. Looking for head shots, right behind the ear or in the neck. Looks like you had a good time.

Good luck. Hogs are tough, I put two 180gr hornadies out of my .308 in a running boar and did not stop him, though he slowed up some. I would use more gun.

I usually use my .22 mag during daylight. Always shoot behind the ear or neck. It does a fine job. Just have to be patient and wait for the right shot. I don't shoot over 50 yards either.

I wonder what a 17 hmr would do? I've taken turkeys and coyotes at 200 yards

I know people that use the .17. They do the same thing as far as shot placement and yardage. I know further shots can be made, but I like the close shots. We feed to bring them in close.

George,

Do you happen to have any better pics of your cart? I thinking about building one or having one built to hunt with and like the bed on yours. Basically just brain storming for what I want to do with mine when I find it.
