Default Last Year's Moose Hunt

Had a great time with my son last Fall. We hunt moose a little different than most which is out of a canoe. Definitely a bit of work but there's no competition, lol. Quite exciting three days with one bull down, one showed up to fight the dead one while we were sleeping on the river with a fire going. We didn't shoot that one; more than enough meat for our family with one. A nice brown phase bear showed up to steal the meat from camp the next day. Interesting times. We got two more tags for this year, should be fun!

I can see now why when asked where's the best place to shoot a moose, the guy said in the back of a pickup.

Ha ha you're not wrong. Here's a pic with it 1/4' ed and loaded up in the canoe. I estimate 800-900lbs all in with both of us in there. It was about -5 C that night so things were a bit frosty in the AM.

You would never eat deer again IMO; and I've eaten lots of those. Elk is probably better than moose according to some.

Woohoo we were drawn for two more tags this year. Hopefully it'll be successful and won't be as stressful. Anybody else get tags where you're from?

In my opinion moose is better than elk & elk is better than deer.

I killed an awesome moose in Alberta two years ago and we are still eating on him. They provide A LOT of meat. I think i wound up with 750# of meat.

Where in Alberta did you hunt? Were you a resident or non-resident? That would have been a VERY big moose! We prefer nothing bigger than the bull in the pics if we have a choice; just too much hard work when hunting on the river to deal with the big ones. Shot three in two days once and it just about killed me, lol.

I was about 3 hours or so Northwest of Edmonton outside of a town called Swan Hills. I'm from Alabama so we were on a guided hunt. As we were told the area we were in was not supposed to be known for big moose and a 45" bull is supposedly considered big in the area. The one I killed went 60". They guesstimated 1500# to 1600# on the hoof. We were hunting out of argo and it was still a chore to get it broken down and loaded up to get it out of there. It was a once in a lifetime animal for me. Made B&C for Western Canadian Moose.
