@ Tahoe - He will probably be a real nice one next year. Its kinda a delicate thing, watching and waiting for a buck to hit his peak. There is an article i read a couple months ago about the misconception a spike buck will always be a spike buck. The guy who wrote the article photographed the same buck from year to year and documented his antler size from year to year. This took place on a huge no hunting property so the guy was able to follow the deer though it entire life. It was a really cool article, if you interested i can try to find it and share it here.

@shoal - Those look like some nice spreads! Im not familiar with the deer you have there in Del Rio. What type of deer are they? How big do they get there?

I saw that article too. Is this the one you're referring to? It's pretty awesome. Perfect conditions and the lack of hunting also have a lot to do with it for sure.

Yep thats the one. I agree lack of hunting and conditions have alot to do with it. On hunted ground its a huge gamble to wait on a buck.

I noticed the drastic difference between a 3.5 and 4.5 year old deer are pretty incredible. Here's a pic of my deer, "D-Rock" as we call him last year at 2.5 and this past season at 3.5..... This spring will be the first year in nearly 20 years that we've planted a summer crop. I can't wait to see what next year brings.

We do have Mule deer on our place but these are all White Tail. The ones in these pics are young 3 year olds. we don't harvest them until they are at least 4. This is the one i took this year and he is between 4 and 5.He was a 9 point that scored 144 B&C. He was a 9 point last year also, kinda wierd huh?
