Time to plan for Phase 2 - Motor hop up
Ok guys, I have a little time to plan this out and get my studying done. Still doing a few minor things to finish off the phase 1 lift project but I'm looking for input for a motor hop up for my '93CC DS 48V. So I toss out to you brethren my goals in search of input and what has worked for you guys. (and what I might want to avoid)
Here is what I would like to achieve: 1. I want to be able to go uphill at greater than a dang crawl! Much greater if possible. 2. I'd like to see over 20 MPH on straight and level ground without taking 300 yards to get there. As much as possible without sacrificing too much range/run time. Off road is rough so I don't really see a need for much over 25MPH. This is not a street cart. 3. It'd be cool to have "jerk a knot in yo' @$$" take off/low end torque without tearing out the stock rear end. Tires spinning, doughnuts in the snow kinda torque. 4. I don't want to turn this thing into something I have to work on all the time to keep it going. Right now it looks like I need the whole 9 yards. Motor, Solenoid, Speed controller, heavy F/R switch, #4 wires. I just would love some more input on what the finished product will be able to do and what package will get me there. I found a place that sells package deals at great prices with D & D motors. I have not called them yet because I'm not quite ready yet. Questions are these: 400 amp or 500 amp speed controller and why? What will this upgrade do to my range? I don't even really know what my range is because right now I don't need a lot of range. We are just tooling around about 50 acres once in a while or running around the yard and driveway. Might take it to a hunt club once in a while in the future. How fast will it go and how fast will it be out of the hole? So how about it? |

Re: Time to plan for Phase 2 - Motor hop up
Also I've decided that when I do this I'm going to take the time to go ahead and camo wrap the body. I really don't want to have to tear this thing down twice...

Re: Time to plan for Phase 2 - Motor hop up
their are a lot of variables to the equation you are asking. tires would be a big one you did not say what you will run. 22" 23" 24" 26" high pressure smooth tread low pressure atv tires. those will have a big difference on performance. I think any strictly woods cart needs a 500 amp controller and a custom built torque motor allong with all of the othr goodies. if you do that it should be pretty much reliable.

I've got 23's on it and an 8" lift. Video coming in moments. I'm having a blast with this project every step of the way.
