Looking for new lifted cart with best suspension
I currently have a Polaris ranger xp 800. I use it on weekends for field trial training for Labradors. Recently my Florida hometown has embraced street legal golf carts. We have a wonderful opportunity to use our "cart" daily if we could find a gas cart with a decent off road suspension. Been looking at the EZ Go Express S4/S6 and Yamaha Adventurer 2+2. I would add at least a long travel front to the EZGO but am unsure about the long travel rear. Have read about instability. THe Yamaha on the other hand comes with independent front and a coil over rear and factory 3 inch lift kit. But I can't find much aftermarket to go higher.
Looking for advice and understand I intend to buy new and am not looking to make my own suspension etc. Thanks |

Re: Looking for new lifted cart with best suspension
I like the coilover suspension of the yamaha's. They ride well. Buying "new" limits you to the factory 2" or 3" lift, I forget the exact number. Aftermarket (not new) lift kits go up to 6" with the yamaha using drop spindle technique retaining the factory ride quality. Rhox is the preferred 6" lift for yamaha.
I have used the long travel kits for ezgo's and would not recommend the rear long travel kit at all. Out of the box it plain sucks. It can be made better with air shocks though. The standard (front) long travel kit is great. I don't think you can buy a "new" cart with long travel though. |

THanks! Let me clarify. I will buy a new cart and add an aftermarket long travel or equivalent suspension modification. What I am not doing is buying an older cart and completely doing a build

Oh so in that case why buy an off road version yamaha or ezgo and pay the extra money if you're going to replace the suspension and tires anyway?

In the case of Yamaha if the adventurer has a good front IFS and the coilover is superior to leaf then I might leave it . How big a wheel can I get on the Yamaha adventurer 2+2 with stock 3 inch lift? Bigger than 20? |

Sometimes those models also have a locking diff. This would be superior over a standard golf cart open diff.

Re: Looking for new lifted cart with best suspension
The best off road ride comes from a LT lift (long travel, like a jakes LT) with new shocks, though you can mess with atv shocks too some have success with them. I don't know what lifts are available for a new yamaha. The stock suspension rides nice, better if you can fit larger tires on, but it is limited in travel so on larger off road bumps it can't do that much.
You can also get a umax yamaha cart that should pass for a golf cart, though colors may be limited. |
