Jakes long travel with drop spindles
I am about to begin my next build. My current cart has Jakes long travel with 26" tires and a BIG BLOCK motor. My new build will be a stretched cart with another BIG BLOCK and Jakes long travel. However this 'go round, I'll be going up to a 30" tires. I'd like to add a jakes spindle lift to the long travel kit. Has anyone already done this, or know if it's possible? Any ideas, advise or pictures will be much apriciated.

Re: Jakes long travel with drop spindles
I don't believe it can be easily done. The Jakes LT kits come with their own spindles, that are much different than the stock ones. I would guess some could be modified or fabbed up, but not just unbolt and bolt.

Re: Jakes long travel with drop spindles
If you start off with a three hole steering EZGO chassis you may have a chance because the jakes long travel for the 1994-200ish EZGO re uses the stock spindle, so you could buy a long travel and a set of jakes spindle lifts for these year models that should allow you to run that setup. Your biggest issue will be the rear end setup. You will want to run a drop down engine mount to keep the engine level enough to not have oiling issues. With enough time and money anything is possible

Re: Jakes long travel with drop spindles
My last cart was a 98 TXT with the long travel. It too used a conical shaped spindle. I will be moving forward with the long travel and a set of Jakes drop spindles. I will have a conical insert machined to fit the spindles. This appears to be the only way that I can make the two work together. As for the rear, I will use long travel as well and weld in a new top mount for the springs. The motor will remain level, as I'm using the 23HP vanguard kit from Cart Parts Plus again. This thing should turn out to be a BEAST with the addition of 30x10-14 tires. I'm feeling like a kid waiting for Christmas here.
My build list is as follows: 2002 TXT Stretched (4 passenger) 23HP Vanguard with the goodies ST Body Long Travel (front and rear) disc brakes all the way around 30x10-14 Tires Chrome 14" wheels Stainless Rockers Suite Seats Elite Dash Flip out TV with 8 speaker and 2 10" Subs in bagwell LED underbody lighting Jakes Shifter Custom cargo bed (1/2 as long as standard).....for beer cooler IDIDIT tilt steering shaft Blinkers/hazards/horn LED lightbar and Custom Paint that should about do it |

Re: Jakes long travel with drop spindles
Great time to order a jakes long travel kit, all their new kits will be coming with upgraded adjustable shocks.
The jakes lift kits for the older style EZGO does exactly what you said and uses machined conical adapters to the OEM spindles. |

Re: Jakes long travel with drop spindles
I just wish that I could get the new designed shocks/springs for the rear. Jakes rep told me that they will not be producing the new rear ones for this cart for a good while as they still have plenty of inventory of the old style rears.

Re: Jakes long travel with drop spindles
Give it time, they will be working on the rears, they just have to first get the new fronts out on the market.

Re: Jakes long travel with drop spindles
Just a quick Photo update...it's been a slow process as we are covered up with customer builds, but here it is with long travel plus 6" drop spindles on 30" tires. Hope to have it completed in the next month or so.image.jpg
