2011 EZGO TXT - Want to add Brush Guard
New to the forum...just bought a 2011 EZGO TXT
Want to add a brush guard to a lifted 2011 EZGO TXT with lights. I would like to one day add a winch system, but most importantly I want the bush guard to attach to the lower center, or have lower center protection. I do not like how the standard brush guards only attach to the left right side of the body; same place as the front top poles. I want more support, mainly in the center. Kinda like a third support if that makes since. The best I can find is BadBoyBuggy's brush guard, but where can I buy that, and will it mount? Any suggestions, I have searched the threads, but a lot of people have the standard brush guard that I do not want. I do see a lot of threads asking for pics of certain items like, brush guards, and no one posts pics. |

Re: 2011 EZGO TXT - Want to add Brush Guard
I posted a pic of my brush guard/ winch pad in several threads. Before the lift and 4x4 conversion I made a strut out of a pair of heim joints and threaded stock that attached the brush guard to the towing lug on the front weldment. It was very sturdy for winching use.

I saw that thread, and like what you did.
Is the center not a common attachment area for the brush guard? I want protection to the hood, and also a good cowl for underneath to guide things down and under the cart. Like a truck would have. |

Re: 2011 EZGO TXT - Want to add Brush Guard
I keep searching for EZGO brush guards with 3 points of attachment to the cart. Left, Right and lower front middle. With possible plate protection in the lower middle area. I only find custom installs. Where the owner basically rigged it up or made the brush guard themselves.
My main concern with the "standard" off the shelf models I keep finding are when I install a winch, the brush guard is not going to hold up. Sure, it will look tough and cool when I ride around, but will it actually not rip off the cart or damage the mounting when the winch is pulling. So don't touch it or lean on it people..."Hey you, don't sit on that hood!" just joking... I really did not want to have to fabricate the guard myself, but if I have to, so be it. I have been needing to buy a little suit case welder anyways. Why does the Club Car, Yamaha, and everyone else seem to have a 3 point attachment, but the EZGO is a 2 point? Or are the pictures I keep finding deceiving as well. |

Re: 2011 EZGO TXT - Want to add Brush Guard
A three-point attachment needs to take into consideration the movement of the front axle. Hence my dual heim joint strut. Truthfully, if the winch's line played out closer to the center of the main loop, it wouldn'd be an issue.
Since the line plays and pulls approximately 6" under the main loop, instances of heavy tension created a horizontal twisting effect that I wished to nullify. Repeating that over and over again will eventually fatigue the metal and cause it to fail. Golf carts were never intended to do what some of us do with them. The vast majority of add-ons are designed with simply looking cool and a given price point in mind. If you want a part that actually performs a particular function, you're probably going to have to build it. |

Your replay had me actually start looking at the front suspension. I just realized why there are no 3 point attached brush guards. The middle attachment would connect to a moving center support. The entire front suspension of the cart is supported on 2 leaf springs with multiple shock coils to keep the ride smooth. I have a lifted cart. I do not want to rebuild the entire front end suspension just to have a stronger winch support. I will fore go the winch idea and just get a brush guard that attaches left and right. Sigh...with a winch support that will probably work, but not be as strong as I would like it to be. Thanks for the heads up and knowledge...you rig looks very nice. |

Re: 2011 EZGO TXT - Want to add Brush Guard
A similar strut will still work on a lifted cart. You will simply need the center to be bent into a Z shape. I think I used 1/2" heim joints from eBay that were approximately $20.
PS- Thanks for the props! |
