Question Camber adjust question

I'm sure this will be obvious to most, but I simply cannot wrap my mind around it. I just installed an Allsports SS lift on the 92 Club Car and need to adjust the camber with the heim joints. My question is should i put it on a jack or do it on the ground? i'd rather do it on the ground but it seems that once i take the bolt out to rotate the heim in/out, the whole thing will fall, correct? I suppose its not a big deal to use the jack, I'm just trying to be efficient and sure don't want to cause any damage by being careless. The lift is very well constructed, I just wish the instructions were as well!

Thanks guys and gals!

Evan

Yep, you'll have to jack it up to do the adjustment and with it in the air that will change your settings a bit. So it will be some trial and error before you get it where you want it. You'll have to adjust it as close as you think you need it, reassemble, drop it on the ground, move it backwards and forwards and then measure again.

Sounds like a lot of work but not much other way to do it. At least that I know of. I'm sure someone will chime in with a better way. Then we both get to learn something.

Thanks for the reply SD, I was kinda thinking i would have to use a jack. I want to get this right for sure, I just know this way will be a bit time consuming. Thanks again!

I've never seen an AllSports suspension in person but that sounds like a big oversight from the design department. Adjustable suspensions usually have a Heim, a locking nut, an adjustable rod, followed by another locking nut. Loosen the two locking nuts and turn the rod without ever taking anything "apart" or needing to lift the vehicle.

If you do have to lift and unbolt the HEIM then take a measurement FIRST of how many degrees you need to adjust it before you lift it so your only needing to do the crazy process once. Just my 2¢ to save you a lot of time.

With a heim joint you can't adjust without taking it apart. The heim is usually installed in a threaded bung or the tubing it's installed in is threaded. You then have a locking nut so that once you adjust it you can then lock it in that position.

Now I'm far from an expert but I don't know how you can adjust the heims on an aftermarket A-arm without tanking it loos from the spindle. I have a side by side that has Heims and they have to be removed from the strut too be adjusted.

Of course it may be such a thing that it's like said above, the threaded shaft may go thru a tube and have locking nuts on both ends so that it can be adjusted without taking it off the spindle.

As UncleJerm76 said, you need to have a pretty good idea of how much it needs adjusted before you take it apart to save yourself having to do it over and over.

A picture or two of your setup would help a lot in diagnosing how you need to adjust yours. I'll take a look at the All Sports lifts and see how they are set up.

Thanks for all the replies fellas. I got her all dialed in this past weekend. I did have to use a floor jack and take the spindle loose. I used a framing square against the garage floor. It didn't take as long as i thought. The only downside to having to do it this way was every time i made an adjustment and lowered the jack i had to drive it a little to settle the suspension. Now on to the bigger issue...after all my upgrades, 48v solid state conversion and lift for this scenario, my son's EZGO is still a solid 4mph faster with only a lift as an upgrade. Looks like it's time to go motor shopping as i'm still using the 36v club car motor.

With all the options out there, it's like information overload! And where i live, gas carts are king and i'm out to prove that a sparkie can move with the best of them. This cart has come so far already, but i'm not done yet! Any first hand opinions on series motors, or high speed gears? I've read countless threads and been probably to the end of the old interwebs, and really don't have any better information than when i started thinking about a motor. Scotty's kit and upping the voltage helped tremendously, but i'm hoping for somewhere in the 30's. Mostly street driving with some lawn driving. No places to go offroad too close to here and i've got too much torque (for the wife and kids) as it is now.

Only one series motor I know of will give you both the TQ you need and the Speed you desire: Plum Quick Rattlesnake II.
You need 2GA wires upgraded controller and a HD F/R switch tho (if you didn't already get all those with your conversion). I would stay away from high speed gears if you are running larger than stock tires and/or are going off road with it.
