Lockmans spring project: A friends 04 CC Lynx
This will be "long-winded"... so bear with me!
This... is the only other CC gas Lynx I've personally seen, besides mine! And it was at the campground I used to be a seasonal at! Straight up? this cart was used, abused, and put away wet! IMG_2966.JPG IMG_3002.JPG For years, I've told the owner of this cart (his name is Don also!) that there are SO many things wrong with his cart, and if he would only give me some time with it (and $)... I would love to work on it! Well... years passed... I just left the campground, and now he wanted me to work on it! (It's kinda' weird... I couldn't say NO!) He bought this cart NEW in 2005 and had it customized before picking it up! Don wanted to lift it as high as possible, the dealer didn't recommend it, (but... customers come first!) so his/our CC dealer added an 8" a-arm lift, on top of a factory 4" Z lift! IMG_2998.JPG I don't want to disrespect my CC dealer because, well... he is really a good man! But, the tech that did the lift?... I had a pretty good feeling that it was his first time with something like this! (not "dissing" the tech either... I wouldn't have known what do do with it back then either! ) Anyways... The first time I saw this cart was about 8 years ago, (I was excited and intrigued that there was another modified Lynx at the campground!) I talked with Don about it for a while, and then he said that "it didn't seem to run right", I lifted the seat, and saw PVC (drain pipe plumbing) attached to the carb and intake tube, and it was leaking! (sucking air!) I showed him what I did with my intake after I extended my snubber bracket (an idea found here on BGW! ) a week later, I removed all of the PVC and just tied the intake tube to the carb and told him that it was a "temporary fix"! Well... it ran great for him, so... I forgot about it, and I didn't hear anything else about it UNTIL... I saw it just recently! IMG_2976.JPG My priority was to fix that... here, and NOW! Re: Lockmans spring project: A friends 04 CC Lynx
Well... I went to pick it up (knowing maintenance wasn't done on it for at least 5 years! )
I was strapping it down like I do with my cart, (holes in frame up front, and the holes in the brake cable brackets in the rear) and as I was tightening the straps, I saw the brake cable brackets move... (very easily!) The first thing I thought? "Well... that ain't right!... hopefully this thing will hold together long enough for me to get it home!" I got it home and looked at the rear lift to figure out... "Why did the brake cable brackets move so easily?" The underside of this cart is a dried, muddy mess... I didn't get a chance to power wash it, a hose rinse was the best I had... Sadly, it just wasn't good enough! (nothin' worst then dirt in the eyes!) Here's what I found... There are at least 3 things wrong in this pic! IMG_3009.JPG 1) The U bolts are upside down causing the shock bracket to bend and loosen the U bolts! 2) Because the U bolts were loose, the axle shifted to the drivers side! 3) I didn't see it at first, but... there isn't a centering bolt/pin in the brake cable bracket! It just so happens... I save goofy stuff like that (centering bolt/pins) when I change stuff out on my cart! IMG_3013.JPG IMG_3006.JPG Next? I found someone had an idea of an unusual way to do a brake cable extension, What is this? a fence cable tightener? A wooden screen door cable tightener? IMG_3011.JPG It really didn't matter... it was broken, the brake pedal was almost to the floor... it had to be fixed! So I fabbed an extension out of 2 pieces of flat aluminum riveted together. IMG_3014.JPG After all of that... An oil/filter change, air, and fuel filters, transaxle lube change, F/R cable adjustment, front end lube, (Well... pretty much everything but a really good wash) I'm just happy to get this cart... "back up to par"! (Pun? naaah!) Special thanks to Tom at Cart Parts Plus for the extended phone call(s) for questions about my order! I know It really wasn't much of a project for me or most of you... it's just an expected, neglected cart that needed major TLC! It's kind of funny!... I did all of that because I wanted too! (and a 30 pack of Miller High Life! ) Thanks to all of you for spending/wasting your time to read this! |

Nice job Don!
Doesn't it make you feel good to correct all the wrong stuff on a cart? Been doing it for a long time now and I still get a kick out of it every time. |

Re: Lockmans spring project: A friends 04 CC Lynx
Ummm... I don't know how to fix horses!
I do know that you shouldn't beat a dead horse though! Thanks guys! Yeah... It feels good, and it's FUN when I get "someone else's" cart back up and running! (because I don't do it for a living) I forgot to add... I changed out the belts, they were original from 05! (of course with extreme duty, knowing that I may not see the cart again for a while!) IMG_2991.JPG IMG_2992.JPG and the spark plug... only 5 years old, but, it was ready! IMG_2983.JPG Kind of funny, I never did a build thread on my own cart, I suppose I could, but it'd be 3 pages long from the start! again... thanks for looking! Peace! |
