Tire broke off lifted cart. Common?
Newbie here.....
Exactly how dangerous are lifted carts??? Took the (new to me) 2006 CC DS IQ out for a little spin only to have the tire break off the front hub. It occurred at low speed when I made a sharp U turn. Luckily I was on a gravel road with a soft shoulder and made a safe landing. Upon closer inspection I noticed the other front hub was new, and made in Korea. The one that broke was older looking and made in China, the bearings also felt like they were starting to go so no big loss on replacing that one. Was odd to me that the other hub was replaced by a prior owner recently, and maybe this broken one was not OEM either. It did get me thinking some....Club Car (and others?) I'm guessing do not engineer their hubs to take on the added stress/leverage of bigger tires. So how often does this happen on lifted/bigger tire carts??? When you buy replacement hubs do you just go with cheapest E-bay ones, or is there some place with some accountability that you order from? Thats not common as far as I have seen. It looks like that wheel hub had some issues. I don't think either of them are original.

That's a first for me and I've abused the heck out of my carts. I'm thinking if the other one was new that probably something happened to damage it and also damaged the one that just broke on you but previous owner didn't notice it so he only replaced the one. Maybe hit something with both wheels at speed like a curb or fallen tree or something?

Looks like the lugs may have been tightened to much. With an impact gun its easy to pull the studs right through if your not careful.

Looks like over tightening may have caused damage and when you got the tires turned so sharp the torque on the hub and wheel finished it off. |

Re: Tire broke off lifted cart. Common?
Well it sounds like it doesn't happen that often.
Ordered a new one off of E-bay that is made in the good old US of A. If it looks like a winner I'll order another one and replace the one from Korea. That one looked good, and spun perfect. Doesn't hurt to have a spare used one in the tool box. The cart is a CC Lynx looking wanna-be hunting cart. Not a true lynx given the serial number (which I learned about later.) Sounds like a cart shop put it together back in 2010 and sold it to another newbie type. He may have pounded on it. Guess I'll just have to put up with the bugs until I find/fix them. Thanks for all the input. Any more comments are always appreciated. |

First time I've ever seen that even in the atv and side x side forums I frequent as well. Like mentioned looks like wayyyyyy to much torque. 70-75 ft/lbs is what I set my torque wrench to.

20x10.00-10 Cheng Shin Tire Turf Tech II. In the RV world we would call them a China bomb, don't know if that's also true in the cart world.
Since I had to look to answer your question I took a harder look at the tire and noticed that something must have happen prior. |

Re: Tire broke off lifted cart. Common?
I didn't ask about the tires, my concern is the WHEELS. They may not be correct for a golf cart.
