Default Bigger tires on standard rims?

Has anyone else done this. Trying to keep cost down so would just like a little bigger tires. Have a Jakes 3 inch lift

You can get up to 22" tires on 8 inch rims.... watch the width. Stock rim is about 7 wide so 10-11 wide tires are possible.... but narrower may be better due to unwanted 'balooning' and consequent rubbing on the rear springs.

I'm sure there are site sponsors that have tires.

not sure it will work without offset wheels or spacers.

My cart (see signature below) has 22.5" tires on 8" wheels. Although they look stock, they're 2+5 offset wheels. They were cheap, only $16 apiece.

Yes they look stock but are offset. I was worried that the inner sidewall of my fat tires would rub the frame in back if I used the stock wheels. I got the tires at powersportsplace.com

You can but they are likely to rub inside if the tire is wide. On a yamaha I can fit a 20x10 lawn tire on the rear, on the front with spacers or use 8 wide on the front, and they are very close to the frame and shocks. Atv type tires the tread can hang out the side so some are much more likely to rub than others. I think you can get away with 20 tires and no lift or a tiny lift (0-3"), but if you lift to fit 22s or more I do not recommend it at all the cart will not be stable and needs offset wheels for safety. Offset wheels are better even with a tiny lift. If you have a small budget for it, this is the time when some extra shopping will help you find a better price. Like posted you can get steel rims pretty cheap, or look for used.

One thing to note is most lifts 4" and up may not fit 8" wheels, if you have any future plans for the cart.

Anther thing is ATV rated tires are much more durable and don't get punctures like 2 ply tires, this is important if you plan to go off road a lot.

The rims on my G9 are douglas alum kart rims 8x8, the off set is 3+5, they have 22x12 on them. I paid $100 each (wheel/tire/lug nuts/center cap) way back in 99 for them, but there are way more wheels out there for carts today and the prices are lower unless you go to 12 or larger diameter. I really like the 8 width as most wheels today are 7. I made my own lift so the 8 wheel fits fine but would not fit many bought lifts.

I'm just learning myself, but something to think about. Bigger tires mean more weight and a higher gear ratio. If you got a sparky you might just start burning stuff out because it wasn't designed for the horsepower it requires to turn them.

Pictures sure are pretty when you post them big tires on the forum, but if you have to cough up $500 or more to push them around then you might not think they're so pretty after all.
