DS / Carryall Jakes lift with brakes
Hello, I am looking at lifting a carryall and have the Jakes 6" lift kit #6233 for brakes, I am wanting to possibly run a 23" tire, has any one with installed there 6" lift and had tire rubbing issues? I was going to order the Jakes 7260 wheelbase extension kit. I haven't ordered wheels or tires yet, Jakes instructions states that if I use above a 22 it will rub and to use the 7260 to correct the rub issue. Cheapest I found it was 119.00 w/ free shipping. If I don't have to spend the money then I wont, just wanted some input from the PRO's

Re: DS / Carryall Jakes lift with brakes
I'm no pro, but I installed the same lift on my 99 carryall 6 and running 22 inch tires and wheel extensions I could hardly turn at all. Had to get the extension kit. Even if I were to cut off a little it would have still rubbed so bad that you can't turn much at all. I would plan on spending the money for the extension kit.

Re: DS / Carryall Jakes lift with brakes
I had some regular rims, no offset. So I got 2" spacers. They stick way out, I think much further than the 3/5 offset rims would be, but I'm not sure. See the pictures, that's all I have right now because I'm overseas. When I get back if there are any other pictures you need let me know. Good luck and post some pics when you get it going.

Re: DS / Carryall Jakes lift with brakes
Thank you, that's my girlfriends bike. I've gotten in the habit of taking pictures of everything before I go overseas, my garage doesn't lock very well and a neighbor had some stuff stolen so I want to be prepared. I found some good tires and wheels on craigslist in my area, take off wheels and tires, I guess the person that bought the cart from that dealer wanted other wheels or something, but anyway good luck and some of the site sponsors have free shipping so its worth it to shop around here.

Re: DS / Carryall Jakes lift with brakes
I just installed Jakes on mine with 23's that rubbed I got the wheelbase extension kit and a leveling block and only needed the leveling block to stop the rubbing. If your gonna be on any bumpy ground plan on removing the extra leaf springs during the lift install if not your cart and your body will rattle apart in short order.

Re: DS / Carryall Jakes lift with brakes
I got the lift installed with the wheel base extension kit also. Had to remove 2 of the front plates under the front spring so everything would level out, it the extension kit was the same thickness as 2 of the best plates. It rides great it does have the factory 3 springs on the rear, should I remove one? This cart is for hauling people around and I don't want it to to sag. I found a set locally of 22-11-12 tires on Vampire wheels and I could easily get a 25" tall tire under it and be ok I do believe. It picked 3 mph on top end and the low end feels good it's not lagging or not wanting to move when taking off. So it's win so far. I may sell it and build another cart though.
