First Golf Cart G29 Build
Hi everyone- new guy here. I've been shopping around for a golf cart for a while and just sold my quad, so I pulled the trigger on a 2010 Drive (gasser). I got a screaming deal on it because the dealer thought that it had a motor on the way out. After a little investigating, it turns out that the primary clutch was wasted. I'm not sure what would have been cheaper at this point because I can build a motor for less than 1/2 of what the clutches cost. Oh well, It was going to need a clutch upgrade anyways right?
Plowmans hooked me up with the full performance kit that included both new clutches, belt, jet kit, reusable air filter, and a couple other little items that were needed. While I was there I also grabbed a Jakes 3" spindle lift and I scored a new set of take-off Kenda Terra Track on some nice polished aluminum wheel take-offs from my local ezgo dealer. Cart after we unloaded it: New clutches: Half way up got the true "gasser" look : Finished product: Unfortunately, while I was under it, I discovered a leaky axle seal. I guess I have a little more work to do before I can really enjoy this thing without worrying about something. Over-all it rides great and I'm probably hitting somewhere in the mid-20's for speed. I still need to call Don back and get the rest of the governor adjustments and valve lash settings completed. More updates to come! I just placed my order on e-bay for some lighting upgrades. |

That cart should hit 30 easy of those are 22 inch tires. If they are smaller, you will be close.
Nice cart! |

Yup 22's. I talked to Don at Plowmans and he's thinking somewhere between 29 and 35 depending once all dialed in.
Thanks! |

Don worked with me after hours and we got the rest of it dialed-in. 31 mph on the GPS! That's plenty fast for me on 1 of these things.
Since I plan on the occasional night out to a friend with some property, I figured that some lighting was in order. I have a couple more additions sitting on the shelf, but I'll save those for another day. |

Re: First Golf Cart G29 Build
That didn't last very long. 1st night out hitting the trails with a friend, it started knocking so I shut things down. He started towing me out but I had to fire it up to help get it up the last hill and it stopped rather abruptly after about 20 ft. Saturday I yanked the engine and found this:
Needless to say, I guess this thing did have something wrong with it. The cam and crank gears ate each other. I have everything on order as of this morning except the cam- I'm going to grab 1 of the performance cams from Plowmans tomorrow. Crank, rod, rings, lifters, bearings, seals, and gaskets should be here by next weekend. I also did a little port work on the head while it was off and will get it decked about .010' to give it a little more giddy-up and go. I might look into adding another port to the stock muffler so that it can breathe a little better as well. I'm not worried if it gets a little louder. Hopefully I can get this thing back together and running by the holiday weekend but my schedule is crammed until then so we'll have to see... |

Hey, at least you have skills to rebuild the thing.
Let us know how it goes |

Will do. They are pretty simple. The hardest part was getting the flywheel off. I probably had 3 hours into pulling it out, splitting the case, and cleaning everything that I plan to reuse. Another 10 minutes on the head. I'll also post up some pics of the reassembly.

Re: First Golf Cart G29 Build
OK- change of plans. After talking to Don at Plowmans, for the money he wants to build it with a fresh bore and all new Yamaha components, I'm just going to hold off for a couple weeks and have him build mine. It's worth the extra $200 over what I would have spent on parts to just let him do it and have a warranty. I think that I'll request that he use my head if it checks out though. I want to see if that little bit of bowl and port work helped.
