New guy opinions needed
I am wanting a hunting cart and I know this has probably been covered about a million times but what should I be looking for? I found a 1995 EZGo 36v
that they said they did all of this to it 2 years ago, Speed Controller and Solenoid, Heavy Duty Forward and Reversing Contactor and all Battery Cables. 6 New Batteries 2 years ago from Ellis Batteries. $1500 cash. Didn't know if this is too old and what do I need to be on the look out for? |

I would think a gasser is better, not stranded from dead batts

Craig, it sounds like a good deal to me and similar to what I ended up with for a hunting cart...I have a '91 Ezgo freedom 36v with lift, tires, pretty new batteries, heavy cables, f/r switch, and upgraded plumb quick motor. It's currently running on a stock controller which I plan on upgrading soon.
You need to ask yourself how far you plan on cruzing around (how big is the hunting property) and are there a lot of hills? Also maintaining the batteries at full charge all the time and not running them to low is key. I messed up when I first got my cart I just left it at my lease and plugged it in when I got there. Little did I know the batteries slowly lose charge about 1% per day! So leave it a few months without the proper trickle charger you will get stranded or not make the hills. Now with full charge I can ride 12-15 miles easy and not kill the pack to badly. When your charger cuts off unplug it and plug it back into the cart...do this again and again. When the needle goes down to 0 pretty quick and the charger cuts off you have a good charge. Also a multimeter will tell you the exact charge of the pack by putting the positive on the first + and the negative on the last - in the line...does that make sense? When mines fully charged it reads over 40v on the meter. IMG_0621.JPGIMG_0623.JPGIMG_0641.JPGIMG_0654.JPGIMG_0647.JPG Anyway, that's just my novice experience and what I've learned on here. I just painted the cart and am going to add gun/bow holders as well as a bed on the back. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

The cart is not too old to be serviceable for hunting. What we don't know is the general condition of the cart or what size components and tires are on it. Those factors would determine if it is a good 'set up' you can charge and run or something that needs to be redone.
Speaking of charge and go. Batteries are the most expensive component so you want to be sure they are in good condition. Specific gravity test or a voltage check under load should give you a fair idea of their condition. Good luck with your search. |

I would opt for a gasser as well, but "price" is a quality that overcomes many perceived obstacles.

Re: New guy opinions needed
I used to hunt off of a 96 model 36 volt EZGo. 22 inch mud tires and 7 inch lift I built.
Thing was bad to the bone with good batteries. Carried 3 men over 230 lbs and 2 deer once for a good long way. (but I bent the leaf springs a little) My problem was I took in water a lot. Messed with the brake peddle. (had to pull it back up after braking) And water got in the hubs and I spun the splines on one as a result. (rust ate em up) I also snuck up on deer and turkeys alike many times on the silent electric cart. |

Re: New guy opinions needed
Thanks guys! I am leaning toward the age is too old for me to start with besides in the pic it does not look lifted to me because it has the factory rims and tires. I have been talking to the xcaliber people from Nashville Illinois if anyone has an opinion on them please let me know!
