Default Need Advice on New Series Motor

Hey all,

I've got a 1994 Marathon with new everything:

AMD 7124 "The Beast" motor
Alltrax AXE4844
#2 Welding Wire Cables with Soldered Lugs
Carts Unlimited HD F&R Switch
Carts Unlimited HD Magnetic Breakout Solenoid
4" Lift
HD Springs
20" Tires
2 year old 8 x 6v Interstate Batteries.

I roasted the motor a couple weeks ago, no clue why. I've been having some heat issues but couldn't place why, now its completely toasted less than a year out of the box. I really don't run the cart too hard, runs around at a sod farm (so it's pretty dang flat) with me, one passenger and maybe a small icechest for cargo, under 400lbs total.

The AMD motor was great, lots of torque and way more speed than I needed. I need to replace it, then figure out why I'm getting the excessive heat.

Any suggestions on a replacement? D&D, another "Beast"? Looking for torque and reliability over speed.

Probably half pedal. Short trips, 800 yards to the feeder, 800 yards back to camp. Maybe a 10 minute trip across the farm, which is were I really see the heat the past couple trips out (when I've really been keeping an eye on the motor). It's just bumpy enough that you don't want to be driving much over 10-12 mph tops on the roads.

10-12 mph shouldn't be a problem with creating excessive heat. Have you checked all contacts to make sure they were nice and snug? Since it's been less than a year, have you checked the warranty period for you motor to see if AMD might cover it?

Yep, all clean and snug. The first time I got it hot, I tore down the cart, cleaned everything and replaced all the cables and the F&R switch (I already had 4g cables and HD buss bars, but I thought I'd go ahead and upgrade those in case they were the problem).

I tried the warranty route and was told it was up on 11/15, the week before it went tits up... I didn't balk too much, that was the purchase date and it wasn't installed until sometime in February. This last week I had one of our shop mechanics disassembling it to see how bad it was and he cracked the aluminum casing pulling the bearing, so it's not even worth arguing with them now.

Gotta pay a bit more attention with a series motor but I've abused the heck out of my Sepex D&D motor on my PDS cart and never had a minutes trouble. D&D is super hard to beat. They can set you up with one that's suited to your situation.

I love my D&D. no trouble cursing the streets at 26-28 MPH. pulls great with just me or the whole family on it.
