Default Need help with shocks

I have an EZGO TXT Gas with Terra Toys lift in the front and I am trying to replace the shocks. Currently has Gabriel Hijacker Air Shocks. I want to replace with regular shocks and cannot figure out the correct measurements.

The Hijackers are 10 1/2" Compressed and 16 1/8" Extended. I sat in O'Reilly's on their database and finally found part #31089 which has similar measurements at 10.38" Compressed and 16.25" Extended. When I put these on the cart and lowered the jack, they compressed all the way down to where the fenders were resting on the tires. WTF?

Can someone help me understand how to find the correct size shocks? When I put the air shocks back on and measure again based on where the cart is sitting properly, the distance between mounts is 15". So do I really need a shock with a compressed length of 15" and an extended length of 16.25" for a whopping 1.5" of travel?

For a long travel suspension you need air shocks or coil-overs, regular shocks only damper.

check post 44 .. Terra Toys

Agreed,You need Coil-Overs or Air-Shocks.Regular shocks do not support weight, they only control bounce.

Thanks for the information guys. I did a lot of research last night and also figured coilovers were going to be needed. Spent a ton of time looking for some.

Got one quote for $500 to make some which is a lot more than I want to spend.

Second option I am checking on is these VW shocks from Dansperformanceparts:

EMPI 9570 : COIL-OVER SHOCKS WITH CHROME SPRINGS / FRONT LINK PIN / REAR / PAIR

Just need to insure the sleeves will be narrow enough for the mounts and if the spring rate will hold up the front end...

Thanks again for the replies!

Check the dimensions against what you need,Honda 400Ex front shocks,Suzuki Eiger rear shocks are common for cart lifts.

Thank you for the additional search criteria.

Please excuse my ignorance, but best I can tell, these ATVs were made a decade ago. Are the only parts available used? I don't want to put old worn out used parts on to replace my current old worn out parts. Seems the other options based on searches are new $1000+ high end Fox Racing type coilovers?

I just need a basic coilover that measures around 16" extended and 12" compressed with a spring rate to hold up the cart and my family for some basic cruising. I am starting to wonder how an entire long travel lift can run $600-800 which includes the coilovers. What shocks are they using? Might be cheaper to replace the whole lift.

Then again, I am sure I'll run into all sorts or problems with missing parts and/or fitment since I'm not starting from stock TXT...

Don't be so hesitant to label something old/worn out because of manufacture date. A lot of "used" parts , especially shocks, can be found at a good price and have plenty of "life" left. I search Craigslist all the time, and can find deals on "good" used parts off of quads/ SXS's. A lot of times, people will take off the brand new stock shocks in order to "upgrade" to aftermarket shocks. These stock shocks maybe what you need.
I too have that Terra Toys front end and in my opinion, It is one of the best ever made for a golf cart. I have the Fox coil overs you mentioned.
One last possible option: Jake's makes a long travel kit and they make their own shocks for it. I believe they sell the shocks by themselves and it might be worth to check the dimensions of those against what your looking for.
