Default Shocks

So I am wondering if anyone has any preferences or know where to get the best shocks for my cart. I would like to soften up my ride because it doesnt ride as nice as i wish it would, im sure having 12 inch rims on 23 inch tires doesnt leave me with a lot of side wall. I could always buy new stock ones but I was wondering what everyone uses. I have a 7 inch Jakes dual arm lift on a G9, im wanting to go fast over some rough terrain.

Sounds about right, some run too much which makes for a rough ride.

Yeah I just thought this would be my last attempt to look before any drastic measures were made.

Smooth ride and golf carts apparently go together like farts and elevators...

Based on the all my searching, it appears shocks are a huge game of trial and error. Best I can tell, you have two options:

1. Expensive: Lay down several hundred (or even thousands) for custom made to order coilovers.

2. Lower Cost (might not be cheaper after all the trial/error): Start buying used ATV/UTV shocks off eBay. You need to figure out the correct length (extended) needed to fit the mounts on your cart, as well as, ensure the mounts/bushing are the correct size as well. Once you find something with the correct measurements, then the spring rate game comes into play.

There are a lot of threads on here with folks using everything from Honda 400ex, Predator 500, Raptor 700 to Kawasaki Teryx, RZR 700, etc... I just have not had any luck find anything that will fit my specific measurements and still have the spring rate needed to hold up the cart/load. I am limping by now using EMPI 9570-8 coilovers made for a VW bug. They were cheap and barely hold up the cart with just me (2000 EZGO TXT with 24HP and Terra Toy front end). When I add the wife and kid, it isn't good for more than leisurely strolls around the block...

Seems there are so many variables, it is really a guessing game.

If you install softer shocks on that lift you'll end up with poor alignment and steering issues.

The route I went was I installed an atv sport front suspension system. It was difficult, but I did it over a cold winter, so no seat time lost. I spent about $1000 and it was the best investment I ever made. It still needs some tweaking to get perfect, but it rides like a caddy! I also used a rack and pinion steering system so it turns super easy and has a tight turning radius.

The downside? You have to get creative, do some reading, do some cutting and welding, and just grow a pair and dive in. It was difficult for me to get it going, but once I did, I was determined.

The other way is to purchase a Jakes LT front end, if they make one for your cart.

Neither of these options does anything for the rear suspension. For that, you'll have to install a 4 link type setup.

Rule of thumb: soft ride = soft springs with stiff shocks
