Tie Rods
Ok, I have a 91 Marathon and am putting my Jakes drop arm lift kit on. I dont want the tie rod so far below the axle so that it doesn't get caught on everything. Can I drill out where the tie rods go in so that I can move them all to the top of the spindles instead of the bottom. It will get rid of the taper that holds them in but I just dont know if it makes a differance. HELP PLEASE LOL, this was supposed to be the easy part.

Re: Tie Rods
NOT a good idea to remove the taper. The taper seats the rod ends.
You will have continual trouble with the rod ends loosening, making your steering sloppy. |

Re: Tie Rods
Thank you. Alright, I guess that answers that. I will have to think up another solution.

Re: Tie Rods
If you upgrade to the newer style tie rods you can tighten them up even without the taper. If you need one of the newer style, let me know and I will dig you one up. IT WILL WORK!

Re: Tie Rods
You can drill it out and use Heim joints, they also make a spacer for the Heims to get it up away from the mount so there's no rubbing.

Re: Tie Rods
If you are handy with and have acess to a welder, cut the arms off and flip'em. I did it to my cousins cart just because of that reason.
If not, go with the heim joint method. |

Re: Tie Rods
No need to cut/weld, or build anything custom when a stock EZGO piece from a 2001+ cart will do. They have a little different tie rod end that has some shoulders that can be held while tightening up.
All you will have to do is take out the taper, drop this in from the top and tighten it up. Instant clearance and the cost is right, FREE! |
