Default 83 Club Car DS mods

Well I pulled the trigger and got a 1983 Club Car DS. Got it for $850 which I don’t think is bad. It runs drives good no issues just had to replace the charging fuse and now she scoots down the road. Wanting to do a lift and tires but not sure what lift to go with. My front shocks aren’t in the best shape so they’ll have to get replaced. But do you need to have the front shocks on with a lift can you run without them? Any info tips and tricks for the 83 cc will be greatly appreciated. I’ll post some pics of it tomorrow.

Here are some pics of it. Also I’m looking at getting an led replacement light kit for it but having some troubles finding the right one or do I need to buy a newer cart style of one and make it fit?

I just built a '84 about a year ago and prior to that I had never worked on a cart. There is a build thread in this section. I found my light kit on Ebay and it fit with minor trimming. They look exactly like the lights you have so probably will go right in.

I put a 6" spindle lift on mine and I'm not happy with it. In fact I am pulling it off this weekend and putting on a a-arm lift. I had read that spindle lifts tend to "wander" and mine certainly does. Not sure you are going to be happy with the toaster oven parts and 36 volts once you lift it and put bigger tires on it.

YEAH BABY!!! You have a good start and GREAT taste in color!!! Where are you going to use it? That is also a factor in what [if any] suspension upgrades you will need. If it is just used on the street, remember, lifted carts don't corner worth a sheet. Takes some of the fun out of cruising.

That too. If your cart has the older Ross steering box you might have to switch it to the newer rack and pinion unit [bracket and steering column] from an 84 up. Worthwhile on it's own as the rack steers so much nicer than a usually worn steering box. A Z lift kit you can get around the swap but you are still dealing with worn steering parts.

WBGoodTimes I saw your build and you did a fantastic job. As for the “toaster” parts of the cart I am unable to spend he money on the solid state which I’d love to do but just can’t fork out that much right now. Not a big fan of “ramen noodles” that your family had to eat. im def going to do an a-arm lift just bc my cart was on the beach for little while of it’s like and the current suspension is a little rusty that’s why I was asking if I had to use the front shocks or if I could go without them. It’ll be a fun cart to cruise around mostly going to use it at the campground when the family goes. I’ve found 94 headlights will those work? I want to go to full led.

Mine must be a early 84 because I have the steering box. Changing to rack and pinion is on my to do list someday.

These look just like the kit I put on mine. I didn't find them in led when I was looking.
